In just two short weeks, an event that should not be missed is coming to the Washington DC area: Capitol Blues Night.

You’ve seen my and other BlogCritics writers mentioning Music Maker Relief Foundation, an organization dedicated to improving the living conditions of former blues musicians who are now in need of assistance. Most of the emphasis on MMRF is on Piedmont Bluesmen and women, those from the Piedmont area of the Appalachian Mountains through Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Alabama, as well as a portion of eastern Tennessee and West Virginia. Well, MMRF and Clyde’s of Gallery Place  encourage you to treat yourself right while treating others right, those who are less fortunate.

Capitol Blues Night will take place on July 1, 2010 at 7 pm, at Clyde’s of Gallery Place, and will feature several acts from MMRF’s every-growing stable of winners.  Performers will include an old friend of mine, Lee Gates, from Milwaukee, Wisconsin by way of Pontotoc, Mississippi.  On the bill with Lee are Piedmont Blues guitarist Boo Hanks; the world’s happiest Bluesman, Big Ron Hunter; baritone singer, Captain Lukeand innovative roots musician, Sol

This is an event that should not be missed by any fan of blues, country, mountain, or Piedmont blues, or any other type of roots music which I didn’t name.  This rare, authentic blues event offers an evening of diverse and foot-stompin’ music, played by bluesmen who’ve been playing this kind of music all their lives.

Only 100 tickets will be sold!

Another informative article on Lee Gates can be obtained by emailing that article’s author, Brenda Owen, at the Pontotoc Progress, the newspaper published in Pontotoc, Mississippi.  The title of the article is, “Pontotoc County native making mark on Milwaukee blues scene,” and was published on 3 February 2010.
