Calexico, Toby Keith, Capitol Unfixes Beatles Catalogue

The most interesting new music this week comes from Calexico, with their album Garden Ruin. That should be worth a listen.

Toby Keith has a new album White Trash with Money. As modern commercial country music goes, he’s probably toward the least bad.

The Beatles The Capitol Albums, Vol. 2 is basically some dumb crap to separate people from their money. Short version, the American record company butchered the Beatles early albums, slicing and dicing to make more albums than the Beatles really made. When they first issued the Beatles on CD in 1987, they fixed that foolishness, putting out the albums to correspond to the records the Beatles actually made.

This collection unfixes that mess. It is a CD release of several of the middle period butchered American releases. If you’ve got the proper CDs, then you don’t need this. If you don’t, then you should buy the right CDs, rather than this mess. Unless you have some peculiar jones for some mediocre George Martin orchestrations from Help!, there’s not much good reason for this.

Here’s the complete list of this week’s major new album releases, courtesy AMG:

TOBY KEITH’s ALBUM….THE BEST OUT THERE!! Totally rocks and it is so awesome. Toby poured his heart and soul into this Album and Lari White did an extra ordinary job on the Production end! The two of them are so incredible together. This Album should release alot of singles and will stay on the charts for months and months to come. Thank you also for your kind words regarding Toby. HE IS THE BEST IN THE BUSINESS!! CLASS ACT ALL THE WAY!!!

I agree with your assment of the money-grubbing reasons for the Beatles release, which is obviously the main reason for its release, but after listening to some of it, the remastered sound is at least one reason to pick it up. Miles and miles beyond the 20-year old current CD releases.

First, we all have to pick up this second box set, THEN everything will be remastered & we can buy it again for the tenth time. Ain’t it wunnerful?
