I have been a big fan of jazz drummer Brooke Sofferman since the release of his first album, Modesty’s Odyssey, a couple of years ago. His band, the Sofferman Perspective, plays live tonight at 9 (eastern) on WGBH, Boston.
This from Sofferman:
- The band will be performing all brand new compositions of Brooke’s, and the evening will be hosted by Eric Jackson. The Sofferman Perspective is:
Jerry Bergonzi- tenor
Phil Grenadier- trumpet
Norm Zocher- guitar
Thomson Kneeland- bass
Brooke Sofferman- drums
Please tune in and tell a friend. Thanks to the tons of people who
attended the Jordan Hall concert in September…..the count was over 300! It
was great to play to such a warm audience in such a wonderful hall. Also,
for those of you who get Jazz Times (November), Modern Drummer (December) or Percussion Arts Society (October), check out the current issues for recent reviews. Other reviews/interviews in Jazziz, the Boston Globe, LA Jazz Scene, 52nd St. Jazz Review, AMG, All About Jazz, Blues on Stage, etc., are still on the web. The latest CD, “The Green Between, released on Summit
Records this year is available…
The Green Between is, if anything, even better than his first.
Sofferman has a Masters degree in Jazz Performance from the New England Conservatory of Music, which is where he met Bergonzi who teaches there. Technically, Sofferman is a sparkling drummer, changing meters on a dime, varying the rhythms from song to song.
Check the band out live tonight.
