World Book Night 2012 Announced

According to The Bookseller, World Book Night will be held on 23rd April next year in the UK and will continue as an annual event. The project will be headed by Julia Kingsford, currently marketing manager at Foyles. She was instrumental in setting up this year's World Book Night.

I signed up to be a 'giver' for World Book Night this year. I gave away 48 copies of The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie by Muriel Spark and was fortunate enough to be on stage for the launch event in Trafalgar Square.

World Book Night is a wonderful initiative conceived by the publishing industry in the UK to get people talking about books and giving them away to strangers. Even though a million free books were in circulation, handed out by 20,000 ‘givers’ to a million recipients, sales of the selected 25 titles were reported to have increased in the UK.
