PW Daily's Jim Milliot reports:
- Scholastic said last week that it does not expect to publish the fifth volume in the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, until its next fiscal year that begins June 1. The publisher still has not received the manuscript from author J.K. Rowling; company spokesperson Judy Corman said Scholastic believes it will take five to six months to prepare the text for publication. Although Scholastic expects to receive the manuscript soon, it does not plan to rush the book into print, Corman said. "We have to go through the
editing process, we need a cover design, it just seems likely that it won't be published until the next fiscal year," Corman explained.
Okay, breathe now, you're turning blue.

YOu can film a movie and do most post production work in 6 months. Time for the publisher to lean on the writer.

Absolutely not. A good book is worth waiting for. I trust Rowling's judgement and would rather wait until SHE believes the book is ready for publication. If the publisher pressures her to turn it in before she is finished with it, I will be very annoyed.
Back off, people, and let the author do her job.

I agree with Pat Berry: there is nothing as disappointing as book that is "almost" ready. Some creative types do well under pressure, but some don't. If you want a book written quickly, write it yourself! If you can't, leave the author alone.

Some kids posted a "review" of the book at barnesandnoble.com already, and they're not even accepting preorders for it yet. Makes a guy wanna post a "one star" review to stir things up. But, I'm too busy with my post-Freudian deconstruction of the symbolism in the latest Family Circus book...
