The Unofficial Media Guide to the 2004 Republican National Convention is online in PDF format. I will give you my impression of it but I expect the real fun of this review will take place in the comments when the rest of you get a look at it.
The Guide combines the serious and the fun so that it is sometimes hard to tell which is which. You will find useful information such as the need to dial "1" before any telephone number within New York City and the press office contact information for the campaign entities and NY entities.
There are factoids such as "NYC has 5 registered Democrats for every registered Republican." There are also contacts for some of the city's 200 ethnic and daily newspapers and a listing of experts. Perhaps some enterprising blogger can contact the experts after it's all over to see how much exposure they got. Speaking of blogs, the media guide has a listing of them, with Andrew Sullivan and Instapundit leading the list of blogs leaning right. Sigh.
My absolute favorite part is the schedule of demonstrations including the New York Blueout in which all New Yorkers are going to put blue in their windows. The guide got the event descriptions from the organizers and these organizers did not mention what the protest stood for. The website doesn't help much. They don't want the RNC there. There's also Cabbies against Bush, Billionaires for Bush, the Poor People's March, and the Take Back the Media March, just to name a few.
Some of the info betrays the somewhat Democratic slant of its authors. Comparing Bush's campaign promises to his performance, for example, they cite his statement that 7 out of 10 children in poverty ridden schools can't read and he will change it. Then they compare that to the performance of decreased spending on education. I'd like it compared to how many of those children can read. But what can you expect in a city with 5 Democrats for every Republican?
It's still a good guide.
