This week's new fiction books run through the same type of stuff we've seen throughout this (so far) slow month in the publishing world. While the amount of quality books have slowed down over the last few weeks, there are still a couple of good novels out this week.
James Patterson's ever-prolific writing career has brought him enough success that he's become his own brand, and practically every novel that has his name on it moves up the bestseller lists quite quickly. After releasing Sail last month (co-written by Howard Roughan), Patterson is back this week with The Dangerous Days of Daniel X along with co-author Michael Ledwidge. Patterson has deviated from his popular series of books - including his Alex Cross and Women's Murder Club mystery series and his Maximum Ride young adult novels - to release what appears to be his first attempt at science fiction.
The Dangerous Days of Daniel X follows Daniel X as he seeks revenge against his parents' brutal murderers after spending most of his life trying to come to grips with their untimely death. Along the way, he has discovered that he has the ability to control objects with his mind and other such supernatural abilities, and he has also adapted his parents' careers as alien hunters. There are many suspenseful moments throughout the book, but from what I've read, this book is more appropriate for Patterson's younger fans than his fans of his mystery novels. But Patterson has a sizable young adult following, so this book should do quite well.
Daniel Silva also has a new thriller out this week, and it takes us to Russia in Moscow Rules. The book follows Gabriel Allon, a spy who makes his way to Russia in search of information about a murdered journalist. In the midst of the Russian Government, Allon discovers that things are much different than he once assumed. In addition, this week brings Vampire Hunter fans a new graphic novel adaptation of Laurell K. Hamilton's popular novel Guilty Pleasures, called Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter: Guilty Pleasures, Volume 2.
