The Duke On "The Flesh And Blood Compendium" - Page 2

We get brilliantly funny and surprisingly articulate chats with folks like Jesus Franco, and in-depth analysis of stuff like Behind The Green Door, and The Devil In Miss Jones.

Perhaps the only truly worrying thing about it all, is that The Duke knew of at least 90% of the films these maniacs referred to.

But really, although there does seem to be quite a lot of it, the Flesh side is only one aspect of this here collection of articles, interviews and reviews. The other side, as can helpfully be deduced from the title, is the Blood, and to this end it has fantastic articles on all sorts of weirdness, some of which I never really want to see, others which I have done, repeatedly, and love. We get a pre-Hobbits interview with Peter Jackson, back when he was making Bad Taste and Braindead (The latter being the recipient of the Mondo Irlando Lifetime Achievement Award With Regards Lawnmowers), we get articles on reality TV, or realiTV, we get stuff about Jack The Ripper on film, and a brilliant opening article about how Scream is a pile of piss, although the author uses other words besides piss, some of them being Post-modern and Existentialist and Fuck.

There are also a great many reviews of stuff you tend to never read about outside of the sorts of publications that have in-depth articles about the wonderfully titled Sex 2. You can read all about the The Satanic Transgressives or Behind Convent Walls, or even slightly less obscure fare like Crash or Cruising or Lost Highway.

Flesh And Blood is a fanzine of sorts, but an incredibly well written and researched one. This compendium covers more-or-less the first ten years of their output, and apparently a second volume is in the works, possibly with even more Penishands or Lesbian Nuns.

Obviously, it is not for everyone. The Duke honest to God didn't know about the intensely explicit nature of some of the illustrations. But for anyone wanting to read something about the kinds of flicks you don't ever really want to see, but are kinda interested in nonetheless, then this is invaluable.

Good work, deviants.

Glad to hear El Senor Duke you are trying your best to corrupt these kids. I will say in all honesty the film Cruising was one of the biggest piles of shit I ever did see. After watching that film I was ready to either take a bath in bleach or watch Godzilla vs the Smog Monster - anything to purify my soul.

Ironically, I loved Crash, but I think we all know Mr. Cronenberg is in touch with the demented pervert in us all........brilliant director that Canadian man.

As for an article on Jack the Ripper films, I would love to read something about that......my fav Ripper film is Murder By Decree, in which Sherlock and Watson traipse into the fog after the mighty madman.......with Pandora's Box a close second (heroine killed by Mr. Ripper during the film's conclusion).....

Someone told me about a recent article on Bigfoot movies/films in a current mag.......which pisses me off because that was going to be my next post......I shall track down mag/issue and forward on......
