Everything I've talked about above took place in a world full of pirate ships, sword fights, seductive courtesans, picaroons and other staples of the bodice-ripping and swashbuckling genres, which I have not been above putting into these books
Sounds thrilling, right. But the book is about economics and currency policy — think Alan Greenspan as Fabio. Neal Stephenson talks about the second volume in his Baroque trilogy. The second door-stop, "The Confusion" has been released. The first book, "Quicksilver" was a ripping good yarn (though if you read the Amazon reviews for "The Confusion" there are major spoilers — though a couple of lines regarding an 800 page book can't really be considered spoilers)
I'm getting this book tomorrow.
