Thanksgiving Memories with Author Jenn McKinlay

Part of: Holidays 2011

When Jenn McKinlay packed up all of her crap and beloved cat and moved 3,000 miles across the country to Arizona and started writing romances. She learned a lot along the way about POV, character development and plotting, etc. She took a wide variety of part-time jobs, convinced that it was all temporary because one day she would be a published writer. McKinlay is a New York Times best selling author and has definitely come a long way, but for her... it is only the beginning.

Jenn was kind enough to share her Thanksgiving memories.

What are you most grateful for?

My husband and our two hooligans. They all make me laugh - every day. I'd be mental without them.

Favorite Thanksgiving tradition?

Shooting hoops in the driveway while the turkey is cooking.

Where will you spend Thanksgiving this year?

My in-laws.

Most memorable Thanksgiving memory?

None stand out. Hmm. Must mull on this.

What do you do the eve before Thanksgiving?

If I'm hosting, I'm cooking dessert or brining the bird. If I'm not hosting, I'm watching It's a Wonderful Life and addressing Xmas cards.

What’s your number one splurge food?

The bird. I like to get a BIG one.

What do you prefer sweet or salty?

I lean toward sweet, but know that my taste buds require balance - so I like both.

Which food and drink combo says it's the holiday season to you?

Cheese platters and egg nog!

What are the five tools you must have in the kitchen for Thanksgiving dinner?

Crock pot, carving knife, mixer, rolling pin and a glass of wine (full).

What's the one Thanksgiving dish your family can't live without?

Relish tray. Have to put black olives on your fingers and chase each other or it's not Thanksgiving.

What do you do after the meal is finished? Play football? Watch football? Movies?

All of the above.

Pumpkin, Pecan or Apple?

Pumpkin, always.

Are you up early the next morning to kick off your holiday shopping?

NO, I always seem to be on deadline!

Thank you so much for this warm Thanksgiving memory.
