Dr. Pollock is currently Professor Emeritus in the Oral Biology and Pathology Department in the School of Dental Medicine at the State University of New York at Stony Brook on Long Island. Jerry’s first writer of the arts book, Divinely Inspired: Spiritual Awakening of a Soul, was a spiritual memoir originally published in 2003. The second edition of Divinely Inspired will be reissued in Paperback on Jan. 1, 2009. His ‘not so fictional’ novel, Messiah Interviews: Belonging to God, due out also on Jan. 1, 2009, is Jerry’s way of giving back to the Creator. Jerry is married to Marcia, his bashert or destined one. They reside in Florida.

Thank you for this interview, Jerry.  Can you tell us a little about yourself and how long you’ve been writing?

Thank you. My pleasure to be with you.  I apologize at the outset that I may be a tad wordy in my answers. My wife, Marcia, always tries to keep me in line. A not so brief description of myself might be:

“Neurotic, Pharmacist, Biophysicist, Ph.D., Microbiologist, Professor, Scientific Researcher, Bipolar Disorder, Primal Therapy, Suicide Attempts, Womb Regression, Divine Intervention, Spiritualist, Would-be-Writer of the Arts, Still Flawed Human Being.”

I was born in Canada in 1941. I became an American citizen in 1990. I grew up in a dysfunctional family, beginning with and unwanted pregnancy and a miraculous survival of an abortion attempt. I have been a neurotic all my life, but have moved toward normalcy through Primal Therapy and Womb Regression. I would say that after 25 years of working with either a therapist or on my own, I am ninety-nine percent better or normal. Through spirituality, I have kicked out Bipolar Disorder (acquired at age 50) which is no longer welcome in my body and my brain.

I completed my Bachelor and Masters of Science in Pharmacy at the University of Toronto. I then went on to do a Ph.D. at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel and then spent four years a s a Postdoctoral fellow in the Microbiology Department in the New York University School of Medicine. In 1973, I joined the faculty in the Oral Biology and Pathology Department at Stony Brook University, carrying out scientific research, teaching and administrative duties. I became Professor in 1981 and am currently Professor Emeritus, having retired in July 2006. The Bipolar Disorder or manic depression began in 1991, and in 1995, I was forced to take a five year long term disability leave because of an acute refractive clinical depression when my research funding collapsed. It was during this period that I had unusual spiritual experiences, beginning in December of 1998 both in New York and in Florida. I had also had an experience (no Bipolar Disorder then) in my Long Island summer cottage in 1982 while I was being divorced from my first wife. I won’t spoil the fun of your readers, but these unusual spiritual experiences are described in my two Titles, Messiah Interviews and Divinely Inspired, due out on Jan.1, 2009 as paperbacks.

    Dear Blogcritics

Thank you for your kindness in doing a wonderful job with the Interview. I reread it and wouldn't change a word.

I wanted to tell your readers that they can go to You Tube or my website and see the 2 1/2 minute movie trailer for the Messiah Interviews. Chris Hatcher, the producer of the video, captured the essence of the book. I wanted also to emphasize to your readers that I would be glad to help them in any way I can if they contact me. For those who truly cannot afford the book, I will send them the book at printing costs plus shipping. I'll send the book(s) complimentary if someone has lost their job and doesn't know where to turn.

Please look for an upcoming interview with Blogcritics in February for our second title, Divinely Inspired. It's actually should be considered a prequel to the Messiah Interviews.

    Best,
    jerry
