For those who are frustrated that Lost isn't moving fast enough or that this season poses more questions than it's answering, take note. There's something that might hold the clues you're looking for. Bad Twin, written by Gary Troup, offers much for any Lost fan/fanatic to ponder.
Remember when that mysterious manuscript washed up on shore after the plane crash? Well, that manuscript was, apparently, Bad Twin. What's more, the book's author, Troup, was on Oceanic Airlines flight 815 when it crashed. According to the book's publisher, Hyperion, Troup was even involved with former Oceanic flight attendant (and tailie) Cindy, who made a rather dramatic reappearance this season after being presumed dead.
Troup penned another book, The Valenzetti Equation, which ponders a mathematical equation that could predict the apocalypse (and is no longer in print).
As for Bad Twin, the novel is surprisingly suspenseful, given that most of the plot twists are transparent. The book contemplates many themes, such as good and evil, and vengeance and redemption, all while exploring the idea of doppelgangers (or evil twins) walking amongst us.
The very concept of doppelgangers is intriguing. My Lost friend (who I re-watch every season with once it's over) had a theory a while back that Charlie (not to be confused with Matthew Fox, who once played a character named Charlie on Party of Five) has a bad/evil twin on the island. Ever notice how, for a while there, whenever Charlie wore the hood up on his sweatshirt, he was a very bad boy? Just a theory, among the many out there, that may or may not eventually pan out.
I must admit, it was hard to read Bad Twin without trying to draw parallels between it and Lost. The subject of purgatory came up a lot in the novel, as did the idea that good people can be bad and bad people can be good.
While in the end the book didn't answer any of my questions, maybe other readers will find hidden clues that I missed. And if you do, be sure to share the wealth, okay?

Sorry, but you're really late to the party here with this article.
Folks way smarter and more into the show than me have poured over the book and found little of value...
