Interview with Maryann Miller, Author of the Romantic Suspense Novel One Small Victory - Page 3

What kind of research did you have to conduct to write your book?

For One Small Victory I had to do a lot of research to find out how a rural drug task force would work. How a civilian could be part of such a task force. How the drug business works. Luckily, I know quite a bit about drugs due to the research I had done for my nonfiction books. For Play It Again, Sam, I did not have to do as much research, although I did have to find out how a person could retrieve computer files that he or she has erased from the hard drive. Some of my adult children are computer professionals, so they were able to help me with that.

Do you blog? If so, what can you tell my readers about the advantages of blogging as a useful tool in book promotion?

I do blog, and I think it is a good way to promote books. People can’t buy your book if they don’t know it is out there, and this is a good way to be out there on the Internet. Plus, it is a lot of fun to connect to other blogs and meet all kinds of interesting people. It could get addictive. I have two blogs: It's Not All Gravy
and The Many Faces of Grief. I have also been reviewing for Bloggernews.net for some time, hoping that exposure will create interest in my books. I know I have found books and authors via blogs that I never would have otherwise.

Do you have a website? Do you manage it yourself or do you have someone run it for you?

My website was designed by my daughter, who also designed the cover of Play it Again, Sam. She helps maintain it, but I do most of the maintenance. I am also the Managing Editor of WinnsboroToday.com and a few years ago I had to learn how to maintain a site. That was quite a challenge for someone who years ago only wanted a computer to print out nice hard copies of her books. My daughter has been an amazing tutor as I stumbled my way around Dreamweaver and Fireworks. Now she tells me they are passé and I need to upgrade to new Web design programs. I tell her I would rather go out and play with my horse than have to learn something else new in the world of technology.

How do you deal with a bad review?

I really enjoyed reading this interview. Both books sound like wonderful reading. In reading the interview, Maryann's blog title, The Faces of Grief, caught my attention. I'm going to check that out as that is something I am very interested in. Thanks for hosting this great interview.
