We interviewed Dean to find out more about his Christian Self-Help book, Igniting the Moral Courage of America.
Thank you for this interview, Dean. Can you tell us a little about yourself and how long you’ve been writing?
I am the senior advisor for the Moral Courage Foundation and the pulpit minister for the Church of Christ in Waxahachie Texas, so I’m actually more of a speaker than a writer. I met my wife Karen while getting a degree at Harding University we have now been married for 38 years and have two children and five grandchildren.
My interest in writing has developed from my passion for helping people. Almost daily, I work with people who are hurting as a result of the moral decline in our country. Seeing the pain in the lives of people who make harmful life decisions has compelled me to become a writer. It is heartbreaking to see a beautiful seventeen-year-old girl have a child with a man who has no plans to marry her or to help raise the child. It hurts to watch as all of her plans for the future are interrupted and her parent’s lives are turned upside down as they become co-parents to the child.
It is distressing to see a young married man who cannot love his wife because he battles the memories of the homosexual abuse which he suffered as a child. It is painful to see teenagers who are so depressed that they would consider suicide. The realization that living by God’s moral standards improves the quality of life has driven me to look for answers to the destructive moral decline of our nation.
