Your favorite book, and why?
I’m a big fan of the Shopaholic books by Sophie Kinsella – I love warm funny escapist fiction and this is a perfect example. Can I also just say that people who like her books often like mine too? She just has more readers than me!
What book are you currently reading?
I’ve just finished Sarah Addison Allen’s Garden Spells and really enjoyed it.
What are you working on now? (If you can tell us.)
I’m just finishing a book about a girl who takes her friend’s daughter along to see Santa and spots her boyfriend in the queue ahead of them... with a wife and two children she didn’t know existed...
What one tip would you give to any of our readers who want to become writers?
Don’t complain that you’d like to write but you don’t have enough time. One hour equals one page. One page a day means 360 pages in a year. That’s a book!
Also, don’t panic about getting a plot all worked out before you start. It can be much more fun to just make it up as you go along.
Thirdly, I draw out a timeline on a looooong sheet of paper and stick post-it notes along it, so important snippets of plot don’t get muddled or forgotten about.
Oops, that was three tips. Sorry! :)
