Deborah McCarragher began her writing career soon after coming to know Jesus as her personal Savior in 1989. Deborah served on the board of a local intercessory prayer ministry, and has been active in her home church and various women’s bible studies for several years. Her primary goal is to share her personal testimony with others while bringing hope and practical help through her book.
Deborah formed Alabaster Box Publishing several years ago as a way to produce and promote her Christian writing projects. She is a devotional contributor to the E-zine Ruby for Women as well as for the print magazine An Encouraging Word. She and her husband have one married son serving in the U.S. military. They reside in northeast Florida.
What was the hardest part of writing your book?
The most difficult part of writing my book was letting others read my first manuscript for critique purposes. It’s a humbling experience to say the least. Finding a good editor was a challenge as well. As far as writing goes – that was the easy part!
When did you first start writing and when did you finish your first book?
I first started writing when I was in high school. I wrote poetry, simple songs, and short stories. I didn’t write again as a hobby until I gave my heart to the Lord Jesus at age 33 yrs. old. That year I began writing poetry and short devotionals. I penned my book Mission Possible in 1989 – three years after I was saved, and then it was almost 10 years later that my book was published and printed.
Can you tell us about your challenges in getting your first book published (if any)?
The major challenge I faced in getting my book published was making sure I had the resources to properly publish and print it. I wanted a quality book and made sure I took my time looking for the right small independent press to complete the project for me.
