i keep finding stranger and stranger "For Dummies" books and this list helps.
They really have pioneered the no-nonsense information book, in every sense of the word - books on stuff you wouldn't realise needs books on.

Retired racing greyhounds? Whats next -- Aged Hens Who Refuse to Lay for Dummies? Yup. I think they have exhausted the idea.

    Hey, that's Santa's Little Helper you're dissing!

Actually, rehabilitating retired racing hounds is a very serious issue. These are young dogs which are trained from puppies to do nothing but race. Their "careers" only last a couple of years, but the dogs themselves will live many more times that. They are not socialized to be pets and require considerable rehabilitation to live a normal life. The usual procedure was to kill the dog when its racing career was over.

To put it into perspective, sort of like adopting Mike Tyson and expecting him to make a good house mate.

Two we probably won't see: "Sign Language for Dummies," "Stupidity for Dummies"

I'd rather collect good blog writing than write about blogging - hey, we're doing that.

Congress For Dummies? Is this required reading for new senators and representatives? Could we change the title to "Congress Is For Dummies?

Fibromyalgia for Dummies? This seems a little flippant for something as serious as a condition like this. What's next, AIDS for Dummies?

However, I have to say that Bass Guitar for Dummies comes highly recommended. I have it, and while I'm still too new to consider myself anything but awful, I can say that it's taught me quite a few very handy little things. Neat stuff, and even expert players can find useful stuff in this book, from what I read in reviews.

The Internet for Dummies book isn't bad either. Before you laugh at me buying it, I buy a lot of beginner's books just to see what new folks are being taught. Also, you never know if there is something that was missed.

    Research!

The Palm Programming for Dummies book totally blows though.

I looked up the "NASCAR for Dummies" at Amazon to see what the recommends and also boughts were.

The top title? "Chicken Soup for the NASCAR Soul".

While the "... for Dummies" series title is insulting, there is nothing more worthless (and benchmark of how cynical publishers are) than the "Chicken Soup for the ..." series.

I've given people The Internet for Dummies for gifts (and to get them to stop asking me questions about easy things).
