Dark Horse comics has been republishing out-of-print tales from their various imprints in omnibuses; these tomes contain a high page count in full color for a very reasonable cost.
Star Wars Omnibus: Menace Revealed collects various stories that take place after Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, and lead up to Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones. In “Starcrash” we meet Jedi Yoshi Raph-Elan, who is attacked by an unseen enemy and must fight for his life without his light sabre. This is a light tale from Buffy The Vampire Slayer writer Doug Petrie and artist Randy Green whose anime style artwork fits this story. I had meet Green years ago and he was happy to be drawing a Star Wars comic, but lamented the fact it was no one any one would recognize.
"Jedi Quest" by writer Ryder Windham takes place four years after The Phantom Menace and features a teenage Anakin and Obi-Wan on a mission to protect a freighter from pirates. This expands upon Anakin and Obi-Wan’s time together as master and apprentice and shows how Anakin is developing as a Jedi. Artist Pop Mhan’s art is anime influenced but he still retains the characters likenesses. There’s also spotlights on villains. Aurra Sing was a character seen for mere seconds in Phantom Menace but in the arc “The Hunter for Aurra Sing” and the one-shot Bounty Hunters: Aurra Sing writer Tim Truman fleshes out her backstory as a failed padawan who was kidnapped by pirates and trained to hate the Jedi. Truman’s art looks exactly like the character while Davide Fabbri’s art is a stylized version of the character.
Jango Fett and Zam Wesell are two character introduced in "Attack of The Clones", around the time the film came out a pair of one-shots Star Wars: Jango Fett and Star Wars: Zam Wesell were released showcasing an adventure of each taking place before we meet them. Also collected for the first time are stories in mini-comics that came with select Star Wars figures when "Attack of The Clones" came out as well as serials from Dark Horse Extra.
