When I was sent this book to review, I had no idea what to expect. Keep Your Panties Up and Your Skirt Down is a brilliant title; there's no question about that. But it did beg the question of how on earth was anyone going to have sex, if that was the case?
The important thing to remember about the book is it isn't straight erotica. It's actually a book which is a very entertaining and memorable way of educating people about safe sex and the dangers of STDs and HIV. It may sound a little off-putting, but Dangerous Lee has many valid points.
She emphasises that she hasn't written the book to preach to anyone or to tell them how to live their lives, but as a HIV activist, it's something she feels strongly about. And so each story focusses heavily on safe sex, and what the consequences can be if you don't practise it.
As well as the stories, the book also contains valuable information about HIV, including facts and fiction, definitions and more.
This is a very well-written book, but I would definitely class it as more of an educational read than an erotic one. It's an incredibly unique way of educating people, too, by throwing real-world situations in there and removing any notions that "it could never happen to me."
I found it very interesting, but some of the stories were a little harrowing, so I couldn't fully get on board with the eroticism. It's definitely an eye-opening book and I'd recommend it for the education and awareness alone, with the stories as an added bonus.
