Reflecting Fires

(Xlibris)
The novel is not bad, its just not very compelling. It is decently written, but the story line is not enthralling at all. This comes from someone who recently polished off 3 books in one day. The storyline combines the bog standard fantasy quest, with a bit of cyberpunk-esque stylings. It is suppose to be set in the “far-future”, but it rather seems to be a Tolkien-esque world with some technology. Thess results form a world in which technology and magic combine; not that original a concept either. The book is filled with clichés from the fantasy genre and never gets going. I suspect that the author will be able to produce something rather good next time round. This outing, however, is not one for the discerning reader. It amazes me that it found a publisher.

As the author, I'm sorry that Mr. Dodge did not find the book enjoyable. Other critics have found Reflecting Fires more to their liking.

Thomas, I am sorry as well, but i would say it is more mixed than negative.
