Dead Air

I'd like to have an Amazon link to "Dead Air" by Iain Banks, I really would. He is my favourite Scottish writer. But his latest mainstream novel isn't available in the United States of America. It is, like Red Rose Tea, available only in Canada, so I want to taunt you by telling you how good it is.

It is the story of Ken Nott, a radio DJ in London, who spouts loads of contrarian nonsense while shagging himself silly. This may mean he gets his legs broken.

If you've kept up with Banks, this is his best mainstream novel since "The Crow Road". If you haven't, this is a great introduction to his novels. His references to music and movies make this really comfortable and even with some movies cogent. It takes place last week, no, really, last week.

Cell phones, commercial radio dj nonsense, and really, does it make sense to carry on an affair with a gangster's wife?

You now have a reason to travel to Canada. Or order the book from amazon.ca.
