Das Energi - A Hippie Spiritual Classic

I have had this book for 20 years. You know the kind? You may not pick it up too often, but yet it has so seeped into your subconscious that you know it will be with you for the rest of your journey.

This book was originally published in 1973 by Elektra Records (the only book they ever published), and quickly became an underground hippie classic. I discovered it in college, when I still had no clear idea where I stood on issues of spirituality, and simply devoured it. I can't say I understood it all at the time, being so new to life, but it resonated so deeply with me and in some mysterious way shaped the woman I am today.

I had the occasion to pick up Das Energi again recently, for a quote that I consider to be one of the most beautiful I've ever read, and which I hope will be inspiration enough for you to pick up this compelling little gem...

"Let us remember that our lives are but moments in the flow of eternity...
And let us also remember that eternity is but a flow of lives like ours."

I remember this as a wierd little book - nothing in it really resonated with me, perhaps because I heard an echo of "Das Kapital" in the title. Williams has gone on record as saying that was his purpose, to write of the way capital would be succeeded in the future by "energy."

I'm glad you found something inspiring in it!

I just ordered the book Das energi at the beginning of this summer (08') and the day it came in the mail, I read it front to back and every last bit of it hit so close to home. I have never related to anyone or anything as much as I do Das Energi. Its like he took everything that I was feeling deep within, and put it all into words. I have never been so passionate about anything as much as this book. It traveled with me all throughout summer, helping to mold the young lady that i am now. And I will continue to work on things inside of me, as long as I have the book by my side. I almost feel as though, because i can relate to it so incredibly much, I should travel around and preach the word. I could help people, only those who would appreciate it though. I am only 19 years old and I feel like I have so much figured out already! I give complete and total credit to the words of Paul Williams. He has helped to transform my life situation so much. Thank you Das Energi!

    Hi there.
At fourteen I bought this book at a used book sale because the cover interested me. Bought it for like 50 cents or something. It's powerful. It really is. The ideas expressed...they really...resonate within me. I love the frankness in a few of the quotes.

Wow, this book had a huge effect on me when I was younger and recently I have given copies to both my sons. It also inspired me to write The Roadless Traveller.

This book changed my life many times.
I was given the 1st copy, couldn't count the number I have bought over the years.
It was 30 yrs ago I first read das energi, I agreed with about half of it then, the rest I didn't get. As time went on I learned things that kept bringing me full circle to Das Energi again. But with new knowledge & understanding more of it made sense, everytime I read it. I have a profound respect for Paul Williams, he had a glimpse of a true reality, most never wake up to. The whole truth is we all are connected, not knowing that is the only problem. Love is the ultimate power in the universe. So simple but true. I began my spiritual journey with Das Energi & I continue it every day reminding myself about the truths I have learned, thanks to Paul Williams, I found the spiritual path that was perfect for me.
