Comics Review: DC Comics' 52, Week 36

Part of: DC Comics 52

And I thought that Lobo took a vow of non-violence. Something’s got Lobo mad on the cover of 52 #36, and it looks like his target is Lady Styx and her hordes. Last issue, Lobo revealed what his intentions have been since he first ran into Starfire, Adam Strange and Animal Man. He was collecting a bounty for none other than Lady Styx. They all enter the domain of Lady Styx, and Lobo learns about his bounty. Things do not go well.

Lady Styx’ hordes enclose on Lobo and crew, but these space heroes prove that they are no fools and that they are prepared to handle adverse situations. In the heat of the battle this fight takes two unexpected turns, one of which might mean an end to the ordeal these heroes have suffered for more than half a year.

From a physical battle in space, we come down to Earth, and Vic Sage’s battle with cancer. It does not look good for The Question, but at least he is still alive. Renee Montoya receives packages containing a flower that may cure Sage of his disease, but these flowers cannot live outside of the mystical Nanda Parbat. Barring a miracle, I guess it’s time to say goodbye to one of the best characters of 52. Question, we hardly knew ye.

In Kahndaq, Osiris regrets the burst of anger he had during the fight against Suicide Squad. Now he is considered every bit the monster that Black Adam is. Just a note: if you want to become a Teen Titan, you shouldn’t split a villain in half with your bare fists. Another note: there are some situations a healthy treat like apples cannot assuage.

The final story for the week involves Supernova and Rip Hunter using some powerful items of DC Universe’s past. We saw Supernova pilfer these items many weeks back, and finally we learn what they’re being used for. Time is screwed up, and Supernova is helping Rip to fix it. The problem is that the renegade Skeets is still looking for them, even if the two are hiding in the last place anyone would think to find them.

Week 52’s bio is for one of sexiest strongwomen in the DCU, Power Girl. She’s one of the last surviving members of the multiverse, which was destroyed during Infinite Crisis. The finer details of her origin does not matter. What does matter is that she is a lot more, uh, genetically gifted than the other Supergirl and the art by Adam Hughes is fantastic.
