There are a few things that you don’t want to witness firsthand. Off the top of your head, you can come up with a good list. Specifically, for guys, you don’t ever want to witness a man cry, and you really don’t want to catch an old man cry. Which brings us to week 29 of 52. Apparently, the JSA was in splitsville during this missing year of DC history. And who needs them when we’ve got the new Infinity Incorporated? And if Infinity Incorporated happens to fail, then all of the heroes given power through the Everyman Project can pick up the slack.
If you’re in the know, then you know what comes out of this “end” of the Justice Society of America. Still, it’s sad to see the original Green Lantern about to cry and JSA’s Thanksgiving table all but empty. It is only the original three (Lantern, Flash and Wildcat) meeting at headquarters while the Everyman Project enjoys a turkey day parade. I had to crack up when Wildcat calls Infinity Inc. a bunch of “jerk-offs.” Excellent!
One of Green Lantern’s offspring (the non-dead one) crashes the celebration and it’s more of a war of words than of fists and superpowers. The true superheroes with decades of experience face off against these newbies who have had only had their powers for a matter of months.
There may be war on the streets, but in the labs on Oolong Island, the kidnapped mad geniuses are sitting down to a thanksgiving meal that only this collection of brains could enjoy. A mutated turkey makes its way around the table by train tracks as Dr. Sivana lays a chainsaw to it. That’s not the most intriguing part of this Thanksgiving get together. The only female scientist of the crew has taken a liking to Doc Magnus.
They have a “chat” away from the table while Egg Fu, er, um, Chung Zhu, crashes the party. I wouldn’t tell it to this monster’s face, but a humongous egg walking around on spider legs is pretty ridiculous, even if he has death weapons as appendages. The issue ends with Steel revealing an aspect of the Everyman Project that is a threat to everyone involved, possibly even Lex Luthor himself.
The bio for this week is - wait, there’s no back-up section this week! I guess there was a last-minute decision to take out whatever character was supposed to be highlighted this week. Shame. Anyway, this was a good issue, but it teases future events more than it actually progresses the story.
