Alas, poor Tornado, I knew him well. Damn, it must really suck to be an android. If you’re Red Tornado, you have lots of advantages over a mere human, the most important of which is to be able to blast massive torrents of wind, but when you go to pieces, its hard to clean you up.
Lucky for Tornado that he got picked up by the right guy. An encounter with one nasty teenager and Red tornado’s poor head might have ended up in the bottom of a river. Instead, a mechanic with an itch to tinker rebuilds Red Tornado into a junkbot. Even though all Tornado can say is “52,” he works well enough to fight a crew scheduled to demolish a small town.
There was one thing that didn’t sit easy with me here, and it’s the dialog. Do Australians really sound like some British/Irish hybrid, or was that just lazy writing? I guess all that matters is that we get some inkling as to how Red Tornado might get back home.
After their escapades in Khandaq, Montoya and The Question take a trip into Bat-town, AKA Gotham City. They have to inform Batwoman of her “destiny” where she’s fated to be killed. It’s safe to say that Batwoman doesn’t leave much up to destiny or prophecies.
Finally, in the deep reaches of space the three lost heroes are on the run, with no thanks to The Main Man. Lobo stole the Emerald Eye of Ekron. It would be somewhat OK if he stole it from a villain who wanted to use it for destruction, but who he stole it from is a giant space-faring head with one eye and an attitude. In one moment of this story, Adam Strange expresses his frustration with their whole situation. I understand you, Strange. I think you should get home safe and sound, too.
This week’s supplement is about Catman. No, not Batman. Catman was a loser of a villain who became a laughingstock, but built himself back up from scratch and became much more than some low-rent hood. I’m not a reader of Secret Six, but maybe I’ll pick up a trade. Catman looks really cool with his two daggers in hand.
