Comic Book Review: DC Comics' 52, Week 45

Part of: DC Comics 52

Wow, wow, wow. The cover of 52 Week 45 tells you all you need to know. Black Adam is not a very nice man, and he does not look like he has ever looked up “diplomacy” in the dictionary. The Four Horseman have taken everything from Black Adam, and that has forced him to walk closer to the line of murderous maniac. Renee Montoya crosses paths with the angered Adam, and she gets off way easier than the country of Bialya, which has ties to some very bad boys.

Black Adam takes exception to Bialya’s buddy buddy relationship. Guns don’t stop him. Neither do tanks. So while Adam lives, everything else dies. Black Adam going nuts all over a country has many parties interested - from the Checkmate organization to Amanda “The Wall“ Waller. Let’s hope Black Adam is stopped before he moves on from Bialya in his quest for retribution. World War III is closer than ever.

Chris Batista and Jamal Igle have done a stupendous job of providing the art for this issue. As the weeks are ticked off, the art has gotten increasingly better for this series. 52 has been DC Comics’ experiment; in terms of art, the experiment has yielded good results. For every two weeks of blah art, there have been three or four where the art was just as good as anything you could see in a monthly issue.

There are no back-up hero biographies in this issue, and I think the time of those extras are gone. Who needs them? From now until week 52, it’s time for action, blood, guts and people dressed in spandex.
