Book Review: Yes Energy: The Equation To Do Less Make More by Loral Langemeier

Yes Energy: The Equation To Do Less Make More by Loral Langemeier is a methodology for thinking about the organization of work differently from historical approaches. The author presents a new energy equation which has a number of elements including a well defined conversation, a commitment, faith, confidence, a focus on visions, sharing inherent gifts/talents, motivating the team, doing the right thing and doing it at the right time. Dreams are the driving force of desire.

Langemeier believes that positive energy propels life forces forward. Creative or innovative energy literally lights up a room. Getting to the right conversation is an absolute condition precedent. It follows that the next action is to channel energy toward making the right decisions. Prudent risk taking is another important ingredient for moving an agenda forward; otherwise, nothing really important can get done if every course of action has to have no risk.  A corollary is not to waste time with things that can be outsourced.

The right attitude is another necessary ingredient in arriving at a successful outcome according to the author. The dimensions of attitude include self awareness, authenticity, a positive connection, and mission clarity according to the author. Negative attributes include fear, hopelessness, extreme negativity, perfectionism and analysis paralysis. Albert Einstein once said " When the solution is easy, God is answering".

Specific traits are needed by team members. For example, members must be willing to learn, have tolerance, have faith, be courageous, demonstrate confidence, and have a modicum of human potential.

Yes Energy is a book which describes how to get the right things done expeditiously. Some of the classic stumbling blocks to group formation, ongoing effort and project completion are discussed at length with practical examples provided. The methodology outlined provides an important starting point for moving an agenda forward despite a plethora of practical implementation obstacles which obstruct even the best project planners.
