Paul McKellips is executive vice-president at the Foundation for Biomedical Research in DC and has directed three movies. The experience in both shows in his novel Uncaged.
You may not have heard of the guy, but he has managed to pen a novel that would rival all but the absolute best of the "action" novels that fill airport bookstores. The book has pace and is mostly entirely believable in its story.
There are not plot holes or giant leaps of the narrative. The fact it is not a tome makes it all the more enjoyable; too often authors of this genre of novels feel that they must write lengthy novels.
The novel tells the tale of confluence of animal rights activists' power in the US and the development of bioweapons by al-Qaeda. Facing an all-too-plausible plot to kill as many Americans as possible, the heroes do their best to limit the deaths caused.
Unlike many of these sort of novels the drama is not completely resolved and its not a complete success for the main characters. I especially enjoyed the irony of the means of delivering the death to our shores.
Some of the scientific discussion might be a bit too deep for some and the parts about animal testing might be too much for the squeamish. Other than those caveats, I see no reason not to recommend this novel for your next journey. I found it a pleasure to read and look forward to the next release by this author.
