Book Review: Trucker Ghost Stories: And Other True Tales of Haunted Highways, Weird Encounters, and Legends of the Road, Edited by Annie Wilder

Trucker Ghost Stories: And Other True Tales of Haunted Highways, Weird Encounters, and Legends of the Road is a very entertaining and well-done collection of stories by various writers who recount events that either have happened to themselves or their families or friends. Not every story involves trucks or truckers, but all involve vehicles of some sort and are road stories.

There are many tales of ghostly encounters, including famous hitchhiker stories like "Resurrection Mary" and trucks from toy-size to semis that are operated by supernatural forces (usually to prevent accidents or for other positive forces.) Very few of these stories are actually about evil entities, and that is definitely a point in favor of this book, as most ghost and supernatural encounters that are not fiction are not scary.

The book also contains other stories of the weird and unusual, including a section of UFO encounters and even an abduction account. There are incidents of time slips, when people suddenly find themselves in a place and time they do not recognize. Even mystery lights make an appearance.

The tales come from all over the United States, covering skinwalkers in Arizona, a strange encounter at the Donner Pass, and other events from Kentucky to Wisconsin and even along Route 666, known as the "Highway to Hell."

Annie Wilder has done a great job of collecting stories from the road that will thrill you, touch you, and even make you laugh. The stories ring true. There are no bug-eyed monsters.

I am a paranormal investigator, and my training and experience does suggest to me possible natural explanations for some events, but by no means all of them--and some of them even suggest the sort of evidence we would look for on a case. Even those that may have explnations still leave that question in your mind. Was it paranormal, or not?

Anyone with an interest in the unexplained will definitely enjoy Trucker Ghost Stories. Grab it for a quick but satisfying paranormal read.
