Book Review: To Catch a Leaf by Kate Collins

Part of: Reviews in Brief

Like fine wine and delicious cheese, Collins’ series just gets better with each and every installment.  To Catch a Leaf is the twelfth Flower Shop Mystery and is Collins’ most beguiling puzzler to date.

Bloomers Flower Shop owner Abby Knight is officially engaged to her longtime honey, Marco Salvare. The adorable couple is basking in the illuminating  glow of love as they prepare to tie the knot.  Abby is filled with pure joy and won’t let her future mother-in-law’s micromanaging cast a pall over her happiness.  She just won’t allow anything to ruin her bliss. . .

. . .until well-heeled heiress Constance Newport is murdered.  Abby’s assistant and friend, Grace Bingham, discovers the body and inherits a substantial amount of money, making her the number one suspect. While poking around and questioning Constance’s family and staff, Abby and Marco realize everyone has a nefarious past and wants their mitts on the fortune.  Collins tosses in a missing cat and stolen art to this whimsical and well-crafted mystery, keeping the reader engaged, entertained, and holding their breath as the twists and turns unravel to the highly charged and taunt conclusion.

There is more to To Catch a Leaf than just the standard mystery to solve.  Collins adds peppery dialogue spiked with humor, inviting situations, delectable characters, romance, fun, and a fresh snap with every volume.
