My legs tensed. I couldn't jump sideways, so I leaped straight up, kicking off from the creature's head, turning in midair, and landing on its neck.
How did I do that? I didn't have time to figure it out. A millisecond later, the monster's head slammed into the tree and the impact nearly knocked my teeth out.
The bull-man staggered around trying to shake me. I locked my arms around his horns to keep from being thrown.
Percy Jackson has just slayed his second monster. His pre-Algebra math teacher was the first monster he met. She was one of three Furies, from the underworld. Another teacher, Mr. Brunner, throws him a pen which turns into a sword when Percy clicks it. Percy slashes it at the Fury, and she dissolves into nothingness.
Percy Jackson is half god, half mortal. He's the son of Poseidon, the god of the sea.
In The Lightning Thief, Percy is accused of stealing Zeus' lightning bolt. When he keeps on denying that he did, Zeus tells him that he has to find the bolt and return it before Summer Solstice. In other words, Percy has to go on a quest.
First, before he starts, he must consult the oracle. The oracle tells him, "You shall go west and face the god who has turned ... you shall find what was stolen and see it is safely returned ... you shall be betrayed by the one who calls you a friend ... and you shall fail to save what matters most, in the end."
Percy and his friends, Annabeth and Grover, depart on the quest. Little do they know that they are starting on one of the most dangerous journeys ever. They encounter many different monsters, starting from Medusa to Procrustes. How will it end? Embark on your own quest by reading the book.
There is nothing to hate about this book. It is filled with explosive action, humor, depressing failures and horrible betrayal. This book is sure to leave you at the edge of your seat.
The new movie, The Lightning Thief, does not have all the details as in the book. For example, Ares, the god of war, does not appear in the movie. Ares complicates things in the book, and Percy gets to fight him.
The book has more fights, and it was way longer than the movie. This means more entertainment. Read the book first. See the movie later.
