The 7 Habits of Happy Kids is an absolute favorite of my girls. I had to hide it for a bit so Daddy could read something else at bedtime (think he may be close to having it memorized).
The author’s note to parents on the three ways this book can help kids.
1. It will teach them about the power of living according to principles that are timeless and universal.
2. It will equip them with a common language they can use with parents and teachers.
3. Kids will find part of themselves in one of the character in the book and this will help them apply the habits on their own.
The seven stories are:
1. "Bored! Bored! Bored!" – How Sammy Squirrel learns to be proactive.
2. "Goob and the Bug Collecting Kit" – How Jumper Rabbit learns to begin with the end in mind.
3. "Pokey and the Spelling Test" – How Pokey Porcupine learns to put first things first.
4. "Lily Plants a Garden" – How Lily Skunk leans to think win-win.
5. "Jumper and the Lost Butterfly Net" – How Jumper Rabbit learns to seek first to understand, then to be understood.
6. "The Big Bad Badgers" – How all the kids learn to synergize.
7. "Sleepy Sophie" – How Sophie Squirrel learns to sharpen the saw.
After each story there is a parents’ summary and discussion question section to help you as the parent incorporate these lessons into your child’s life.
It’s all easy to understand information. My daughters understood the concepts from age two on. I’m sure as we continue to read the stories that the girls will start seeing how they all work together to make you a better person.
I love hearing the stories. They’re little reminders to you as you teach them to your kids.
