Book Review: The 17 Day Plan To Stop Aging by Michael Moreno

The 17 Day Plan To Stop Aging by Michael Moreno is an important treatise on how to slow down the aging process. Moreno provides a few simple steps to achieve a steady improvement in favor of patients.

The first step involves identifying and controlling internal inflammations through diet, exercise, hydration, smoking cessation, and vitamin supplements. Next, patients need to control oxidative stress through supplements like vitamins A, C,E, beta carotene, selenium, and ginseng.

Moreno explains how sugar and protein get stuck together in a process called glycation. The solution, in part, is to control sugar intake within the normative values of hemoglobin A1C at a range under 6.0 or thereabouts. In addition, carnosine guards against glycation.

The next step is to promote methylation or the correct absorption of vitamins in the body. There are vitamins such as ester C, which are highly absorbable. In addition, B vitamins and folic acid help with absorption.

Lastly, immune system repair is a significant challenge to ward off many disease processes. Zinc, vitamin ester C, folic acid, and ginseng are all immune system support components.

Moreno advises to cut back on white rice, white bread, flour, corn syrup, fast food, and beer consumption. The author names five precepts for the anti-aging process. These basic precepts are movement, a healthy weight, hydration, no smoking, and vitamin supplementation.

Moreno provides vitamins to support the nervous system. These are vitamin ester C, E, B complex, Omega 3 fish oil, tumeric, and selenium. Vitamin and nutrient support for the digestive system include high fiber, probiotics, vitamins D3, E, and selenium. Endocrine system support includes calcium, Vitamin D3 and green tea. Respiratory system support includes broccoli, nuts, asparagus, celery, carrots, and thyme tea.

Moreno has an excellent explanation of nutrients to support a healthy heart. These foods include salmon, onion, quercitin, pomegranate juice, blueberries, spinach, sweet potato, and garlic.

The 17 Day Plan To Stop Aging by Michael Moreno is an excellent book on the mechanics of addressing the aging process. The contents of Moreno's book should be discussed with your physician to promote an incremental phasing in of the nutrients and foods promoted by the author to slow down the aging process.

Appropriate exercise protocols could be discussed with a professional physical therapist. Patients may consult with a nutritionist on the appropriateness of foods to phase into the daily diet.
