In Storm Force Kate Garrett and Shane Warren are tossed together during the worst storm in Florida’s history. Kate is an experienced as well as tough wilderness guide with her own thriving business in the Florida Everglades when her ex-husband unexpectedly sends their children down to spend some time with her. Kate very rarely spends time with her children, since her rich ex-husband received custody a few years previously in a nasty custody hearing.
While on her way to the airport Kate is involved in a prison bus breakout. Kate is eventually taken hostage by the prisoners, among whom is the handsome Shane Warren, who is not what he appears to be. Kate doesn’t know what to make of this man, who one minute is preventing her escape and the next trying to help her.
Kate learns that the escaped convicts were all involved in a high profile kidnapping case in which the person they ransomed was killed and never found. The money that the girl was ransomed for was never recovered and now that the convicts have escaped they are intent on collecting. The convicts keep Kate with them to guide them through the storm-ravaged swamps.
There is a scene about halfway through the book in which one of the convicts is snatched by an alligator and without thinking Kate jumps into the flood waters to try to save him. She grabs the alligator, slits its throat and pries the jaws to release the half-dead man. It is a great scene. I held my breath and had to read it twice - it was that compelling.
Kate and Shane struggle against each other, the sexual tension building, until finally Shane sides with her. Together they fight to save her children not only from the danger the convicts pose but her greedy ex-husband as well.
This is a page-turner, not at all what I would expect from a Silhouette romance. And even with this being a Sihouette Bombshell it was more action than romance. I enjoyed Storm Force; it made a great escape from a stressful day at work, and I recommend it to anyone looking for lots of adventure with a side of romance.
