As I started reading Sound of Silence: A Choice that Matters by Chris Williams, I wasn’t sure what it was going to be about, and I was pleasantly surprised by the story. 
Chris Williams is a high school girl who many people can relate to, and her honesty leaves her vulnerable and raw, which draws the reader in to her story even more.
In this memoir, Williams shares her feelings about several teenage related issues, including moving during her high school years, friendships, drinking, sexual relationships, spirituality, and more. She opens up about her conflicted thoughts and struggles as she experiments with life. I found myself taken back to my high school days, remembering my personal struggles. I particularly connected with her struggle with moving to another city because my family moved to another state when I was 16. It was comforting to know that I wasn’t alone with my feelings of fear and loneliness leaving good friends and entering a new high school without teenage allies.
I highly recommend this book for teenagers as well as parents and anyone who is around teenagers. This book reminded me of my tender teenage years and how kids at that age struggle to find themselves. I also think parents and teachers who work with teenagers can learn more about the thoughts and feelings of their children and students, helping them to better relate and build stronger relationships. This book also reminded me to reserve judgment of others, no matter what. I really enjoyed Sound of Silence: A Choice that Matters by Chris Williams and couldn’t put it down once I started it.
