While I really enjoy my new camera, it's not something I carry around with me all the time. I'm not a professional photographer so, unless it's a special occasion, my camera tends to stay at home. The one thing that I do have with me all the time is my iPhone, so I find myself snapping a lot of pictures with it. Unfortunately, besides aiming and pressing the button, I don't really know how to take great photographs with my iPhone. I know that there are a lot of neat things that you can do with different apps, but I'm not the most technical person in the world.
SnApp Shots: How to Take Great Pictures with Smartphones and Apps is a guide to taking amazing photographs on iPhones, Android phones, Windows phones, and Blackberries. Photographer Adam Bronkhorst explains a variety of photography apps and gives examples of the many stunning effects possible. SnApp Shots includes both the basic techniques like cropping and correcting color as well as the more advanced techniques like adding borders, photobooth strips, and sepia tints.
SnApp Shots walks you through understanding your phone's camera and different lighting situations so that you have a basic understanding of taking photographs before you start. You then learn about some of the terminology you'll see in the book, including composition, focusing and exposure, flash, etc. The author also explores different lenses and advanced functions like time lapse and self timers. Once you understand how to take the photograph, you will learn how to edit the shot including cropping, contrast, exposure, and film types.
SnApp Shots: How to Take Great Pictures with Smartphones and Apps takes Smartphone photography far beyond the basics by also including best practices like backing up your photos and uploading to mobile sites. The book also touches base on Flickr, social networks, geotagging, and tagging. You even gain an understanding of gallery slide shows, light meters, depth of field calculators, learning apps, model release forms, location finders and lighting diagrams. Once you thought you couldn't learn more about Smartphone photography, you learn about different accessories available like lenses, filters, and tripods.
