She is a former award winning bank executive with more than 25 years of combined experience in banking and real estate. Her book is a must read for anyone facing foreclosure or struggling to hold onto their home in the current economy.
The book starts off with a good overview of the process. The author explains how foreclosures work, the difference between a loan modification and forbearance as well as what documents one will need to have before contacting a lender.
From there, Ms. Cuevas explains everything that a homeowner will need to do in order to get their loan modified and does it all in an easy to understand, step-by-step approach. In the first few chapters, she discusses everything that one will have to do – from how to request a modification from your lender to what to do if they reject your request.
She also provides a series of tools to help you in the process. There is a sample log that homeowners should keep to document every telephone conversation that they have with their lender, sample letters that one may need to send at various stages of the process, and so on.
I was also impressed to see that Ms. Cuevas included a series of QR codes in the book. These link you to resources on her web site that can help homeowners through the process.
Ms. Cuevas also has a lot of affirmations spread throughout her book. She believes that they are needed to help keep homeowners motivated and not feel overwhelmed, which is important because not getting discouraged is probably the hardest part of a foreclosure or loan modification. Personally, I have to admit that affirmations have never done much for me, but I’m also aware that many people swear by them.
For those who find affirmations useful, this book has lots of them. For those who don’t, like me, they’re easy to skip over and aren’t distracting.
Overall, Save Your Home Without Losing Your Mind or Your Money is an excellent book – a must read for anyone who is having troubles with their mortgage or knows someone who is. These days, that’s a lot of people.
