Book Review: Rapid Realignment: How to Quickly Integrate People, Processes, and Strategy for Unbeatable Performance by George Labovitz and Victor Rosansky

In Rapid Realignment,  George Labovitz and Victor Rosansky show the reader the importance of realignment to the success of companies. How many entrepreneurs or business managers know what the main thing of their organization is?

The first step toward rapid realignment is to get the leadership team’s members aligned with the main thing. The main thing is the ultimate purpose of the organization and the unifying concept to which every employee can contribute in order to make the organization successful.

Most senior management teams are like dysfunctional families. This is because many members of the theme have conflicting values about what is most important to the organization. They refuse to have a list of strategic possibilities, and some don’t even understand how the company creates values.

In order to be successful, the members have to be on the same page about the values that comprise the organization. This can take a lot of work but it is possible when an organization’s values are aligned both vertically and horizontally.

The vertical dimension of alignment is concerned with strategy. The management team must have a clear line of sight and they must also understand the organization’s overarching purpose or its main thing. The horizontal dimension connects business processes with customers. This must also be clear and management must be on the same page about this for an organization to be successful and aligned properly.

Alignment and high performance are achievable only when everyone can articulate the main thing and his/her role in serving it. But attaining alignment is a continuous process. You cannot simply set a course and then sit back and relax.

Management have to take continual steps to align their values with their main thing and to act in ways that will continuously bring about the main thing. Now that is hard work! But it is possible and very rewarding!

I enjoyed the book from beginning to end and concluded that "rapid realignment" is not merely a concept that is relevant to the business manager. The concept is also relevant for many of us in our daily lives, especially those who are trying to manage their lives effectively and to be successful.

How many of us know what our main thing is? Get ready to be enlightened as you read the book and to make your life much more purposeful
