Book Review: Quick Check Guide to Gluten Free Foods by Linda McDonald M.S., R.D.

Part of: Reviews in Brief

Quick Check Guide Gluten Free Foods by Linda McDonald is an excellent guide which informs consumers of food content and product labelling on hundreds of food choices both in brand names and in restaurants.

The food content is categorized by fat content, cholesterol, fiber, sugar, protein, and a host of other ingredients which manufacturers pack into the food we eat. Each brand is listed together with food types like grains, pasta, spices and fruit juices.

McDonald has an excellent section on nutrition facts which breaks down many food offerings by the specific organic food content, as well as nutrients and chemical content, if any. There is a valuable guide in the back of the book which has restaurant dining, product manufacturers, and other valuable content on the foods offered in popular restaurants.

The author lists a number of very valuable websites where consumers can get additional valuable information on foods. For example, choosemyplate.gov has very good information on meal choices. The book lists only gluten-free foods which are highly desired for people who are gluten-intolerant or sufferers of celiac disease.

Quick Check Guide to Gluten Free Foods is packed with valuable information for dieters, people with diabetes, celiacs, and the elderly who require more attention to strict dietary regimens to satisfy ongoing health and wellness issues.

The author concentrates her efforts on shopping tips, kitchen protocols for healthful eating, as well as precautions for dining out and eating at night. The presentation is well researched and easy to read, as well as implement. The cost of the book is modest in comparison to the high value of the information contained.
