Book Review: Plone 3.3 Products Development Cookbook by Juan Pablo Giménez and Marcos F. Romero

Part of: Reviews in Brief

Are you a Plone 3.3 developer? Do you wish you knew more about how to extend your Plone site? If these are true, you probably owe it to yourself to check out the new book Plone 3.3 Products Development Cookbook from Packt.

If you're not already familiar with Plone, Python, and Zope you may not want to start with this book. The authors provide a little introductory material, but by and large this book doesn't mess around with beginner's tips. It's mostly all about implementing serious functionality using serious developer's mechanisms.

The text reads like a series of exact recipes for implementing specific features in Plone. (For instance, allowing multimedia content that is both playable and downloadable.) There are a series of such features, all real-world desirable and all well beyond trivial to implement. This book guides the reader exactly through the steps necessary to enhance your site as needed.

The book should serve as an excellent reference. The material is organized in such a way that the chapters need not be read in order. I imagine that'll be the way this book is most often used.

All things considered, I'd recommend this book for anyone with serious Plone 3.3 development tasks to fulfill. For this stripe of developer, the book will quickly become a go-to reference.
