It's been 23 years since Peter Pan and his friends left the mysterious country of Rundoon. They left believing that they had defeated the evil band of shadow creatures they call the Others. Molly has grown up and married George Darling, and she now has three children: Wendy, John and Michael. Things seem to be all peaceful and quiet until one night James, who was one of Peter's lost boys, shows up at Molly's door. He's now working for Scotland Yard and has reason to believe that the heir to the throne, Prince Albert Edward, is under the control of the Others. Not only is England's future at stake, but it soon becomes obvious there is much more to the Others plot than simply taking control of the throne. Molly is skeptical at first, but then James disappears mysteriously, and she is forced to investigate. But Molly also disappears under strange circumstances. Now England's only hope lies in her daughter Wendy, who must risk everything to find Peter and enlist his help.
Once again, best-selling authors Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson have teamed up to produce the fourth installment in their Starcatchers series. What started as one volume to explain how Peter Pan met Captain Hook (Peter and the Starcatchers) has turned into a highly successful series. Each book has proved to be more exciting than the previous volume, and Peter and the Sword of Mercy is no exception. But Barry and Pearson have also kicked the suspense up a notch as well. If this is to be the last volume of the series (and there's no word about that yet), I can't think of a better way to wrap things up than with this book.
The authors have again managed to find their single voice with which to write this story and skillfully combine their skills to provide a book that provides plenty of action, suspense, and even a bit of humor now and then.
