Book Review: Men and Their Childish Head-Games: A Mind Boggling Tale of On (Off) Line Dating in NYC by Jessica V.

Part of: Reviews in Brief

Jessica V’s anonymous nonfiction book is a diary-type compilation of one New York woman’s one year and nine month struggle to find a decent guy. She dated online and off-line and both proved to be difficult for her. The stories show the reader what Jessica went through and how she coped with some of the difficulties that she experienced in the hands of the various men that she dated over a period of time.

The first stories that she shared with the reader were funny. However, it seemed that the same types of things kept recurring many times throughout her many dating partners. This gave the entries in the book a predictable feel towards the middle of the book. I was hoping that Jessica would have learned from her mistakes and that she would later start dating guys who were much more mature. But that didn’t seem to happen.

The book also showed the perils of online dating. I think in today’s day and age it would be much safer to not date online and to make sure to first meet the guy one was going to out with in person. But perhaps I am a bit old-fashioned.

I encourage the reader to approach this book with an open mind so that they could hopefully learn from Jessica’s mistakes. She did make quite a few and wanted to share it with the readers so that other women wouldn’t make similar mistakes.
