Book Review: Intimacy Ignited: Conversations Couple to Couple by Drs. Dillow and Pintus

Part of: Reviews in Brief

With the many twist and turns befuddling marriages in the world today, where infidelity and gold-digging has become the order of the day, obviously there’s some discomfiting jaggedness eating deeply into the fabric and texture of our relationships.

Intimacy Ignited: Conversations Couple to Couple is a fantastic resource authored by marriage counsellors who are couples themselves. Written with a raunchy feel to it, the book attempts to show couples how — beyond sex — they could fire up and maintain the flames of a passionate romance.

Exploring this topic, Drs. Dillow and Pintus take a verse-by-verse look at the Song of Solomon. King Solomon apparently wouldn’t be such a model character for this topic; yet, the inclusion of his book (which is scripture’s most romantic book) in the Bible goes to show Divine Grace to redeem any wayward child. The authors — besides the essence on why we need to become the servant-lover rather than a dominant lover in relationships — stress the fundamentals of a rediscovery of freedom, holiness, and beauty of sex in marriage.

Intimacy Ignited is divided into two sections "Ignite the Flame," and "Keep the Flame Burning". The singular issue which resonates through the whole read is about emotional insecurities in relationships, an emphasis I also stress. With emotional problems being the bane of most marriage breakdowns, intimacy ignited could help point such in the right direction, “when couples entrust themselves to the Giver of Life and make decision to put others before themselves”. The effect of this will result in the fanning of the fire of lifelong love.

I can’t fault Intimacy Ignited but recommend it to every married couple on the grounds that it will help weather the storm of their rough waters and heal the dry seasons of their romantic lives, rather than opt-out for the ‘D’ word: the painful escape route!
