Book Review: Healing Remedies: More Than 1,000 Natural Ways to Relieve Common Ailments by Lydia Wilen and Joan Wilen

Healing Remedies: More Than 1,000 Natural Ways to Relieve Common Ailments, from Arthritis and Allergies to Diabetes, Osteoporosis, and Many Others by Lydia Wilen and Joan Wilena is an excellent treatise on how to use natural foods to bolster the immune system and provide nutrients. In addition, the author provides specific nutrients and natural remedies to include in the dietary regimen like cod liver oil and vitamins A,C,E and D.

These remedies include classic ones passed down over the centuries, as well as more modern discoveries by practicing physicians. For instance, Wilen explains how red wine helps conditions like artherosclerosis by possibly reducing arterial plaque. Two apples a day can be helpful in reducing blood pressure to more normal levels.

Oil of fennel and anise are excellent tonics for alleviating bronchitis. Banaba leaf, gymnema sylvestre, alpha lipoic acid, chromium, magnesium and Vitamin D are very helpful in normalizing glucose levels according to Wilen.

Reducing blood pressure may be achieved by drinking raw beet juice. Salba is known to reduce blood pressure along with reductions in the C-reactive protein. Salba may be helpful with reducing inflammation associated with colorectal cancer.

Muscle pain can be managed with cayenne pepper, according to Wilen. Parsley tea is a classic for dealing with urinary issues. A week long absorption of raisins in gin may help with the pain symptoms of arthritis. Fresh string beans also help with arthritis. Green tea and apple cider vinegar help to make the body smell fresher. (sort of a natural deodorant)

Wilen advises consumers with hair loss issues to limit animal fat in the diet, as well as salt intake. The author also indicates how to treat things like snake bites with wet salt on the bite prior to going to the emergency room.

Healing Remedies: More Than 1,000 Natural Ways to Relieve Common Ailments, from Arthritis and Allergies to Diabetes, Osteoporosis, and Many Others is an excellent book on the details of eating well and taking things like supernutrients to maintain health and wellness. Implementation of these simple protocols could go far in reducing the need for health care interventions in the public and private systems throughout the United States and the world.

Vitamins, foods and nutrients in the daily diet should be discussed with your physicians and other health care providers like dietitians and nutritionists.
