Sorting hat as horcrux - one more thought. Did V turn it into a horcrux when he visited D's office as a young man asking for a job? A job which he knew that D would never give him? So why did he come to D's office, then? Certainly to make mischief of some sort. Why did his hand move in his robe pocket, noticed only by Harry years later in the pensieve?
77 - The Theory
you have to kill someone to create a horcrux, though, and no one died when V. visited Dumbledore asking for a job.
I agree that V. had another motive in his visit, but I seriously doubt that a horcrux was it.
78 - ved
since draco failed V, he would be punished, so i think snape brought him into hiding b/c why else would DD have promised draco that he would be protected, unless DD could actually do so (i.e., through snape)??? snape's teaching HP to duel ("keep your mouth shut and your mind closed") is a very obvious sign that snape's a good guy.. all things point to it (as mentioned by others above).. anyhow, w so many giants, werewolves, inferi, etc., how is HP's side going to win??? well, i'm sure hermione's love for the elves is going to play a part... grawp is just one giant of many, and a 'small' one too, so i don't think it would make sense for grawp to play a big role... oh yeah, just random thoughts, but DD's agony when drinking the stuff doesn't sound like DD, and the things he said makes it seem like those were the last thoughts and feelings of the ppl who were murdered (tortured?) by V to create the inferi that guard the horcrux... what's got me stumped is who is RAB, how RAB managed to take the horcrux, and how he filled the bowl back up and place a replacement locket in it??? too strange- i'd like to see JKR unfold this thing w/o tripping up... it's going to be fun anyway...

Having been felled by a nasty summer cold, I've just spent two days rereading the whole sequence in order, and doing that, I really do have to be impressed by the achievement. Not just the storytelling, which is highly involving, but the way Rowling has stepped up the level of complexity and sophistication of each book, in line with the growing age of the original readers. I do, however, feel a little for the parents of say eight-year-olds just starting on Harry now, for the Half-Blood Prince is certainly going to be challenging for them now.
And I suspect the format of the final book may be quite different, since it is going to have to be very much a quest - a hunt for the series of horcruxes, which will give it quite a different form to the circular shape of the earlier ones.

SPOILERS. Heres my oppinion on what is going to happen in book 7.
I think that Harry is one of Voldemorts Horcruxes. In a past book I recall Dumbledore saying that Voldemort "transferred a piece of himself, his powers into harry when he tried to kill him". I think Voldemort was making Harry one of his Horcruxes, because Voldemort knew that the only way Harry would be able to defeat him, would be to destroy all the 7 parts of Voldemorts soul, which indoubtedly Harry would find out about. Therefore.. Harry would have to kill himself to kill Voldemort. Also, I think there is a reason as to why Dumbledore trusted snape. When snape killed Dumbledore, Dumbledore "pleaded" , not for his life, but for snape to kill him, Dumbledore is not the kind of man who would plead for his life, I think he was pleaded wtih Snape to end his life for some reason. I believe he was pleading with Snape to kill him, because him and snape had an agreement, that snape would have to kill dumbledore for Some Reason.. like, maybe Dumbledore had to die to save harry in some way I'm not sure. And thats what I think. Feel free to email me at akemi_katsuo@hotmail.com
81 - Kat
Also, RAB is Siriuses Brother. Regulas Black or whatever he was called. "A" would be his middle name, whatever that may be.
82 - lazaros
i dont think that rab is serius brother this is stupid idea.and i dont think that harry is a horcruxe because if he is horcrux he has a piece of voldermort soul in him this mean that he can see whaever harry do and also he can control him like his snake...........
83 - ajem
Is Harry a horcrux? Still an interesting thought. Wasn't V's plan to kill Harry, though, selecting Harry as the chosen one who might one day defeat? Purposely putting a piece of your soul into someone who will one day attempt to kill you? If you kill him, you're purposely killing off a piece of your own soul? D also mentioned problems associated with making a living thing a horcrux, although I find it interesting that they discussed it. The thought that Harry might be the last living descendent of Godric Gryffindor is interesting, hence Harry coming from Godric Hollow and going back there next summer? Was Harry the item of Gryffindor's that V was searching for? Still, what would V's motive be for making Harry a horcrux?
84 - Aaman
That is the crux of the matter

i thought that the 6th book was good but not the best and any one who says oh the book was rushed at the end well it was nt like in star wars revenge of the sith show the dark side had to act quickly in order to put the jedi of there guard same as in the harry potter book they had to act quick inorder to trough the goodies of there guard and if they recon it went to fast thenthey should not read it as they can not handdel it. by the way if you say that the books r crap or "JK fucked up the Harry Potter series by killing Dumbledore. BITCH. He better come back to life in the 7th book" then perhaps you should not read it as dumbledoor will not come back so get over it. bad notes out the way My theory is that there will be more than one book as at the end of the sixth book Harry says that he will not come back to Hogwarts. He also says that he is going to see where his parents were buried which is Godric's Hollow, but first he has to go and see Bill's (ron s older brother) wedding as he gets married to Fleur Delacor. Another reason I reckon that there will be more than one more book is because Harry has to destoy some horcruxes which are parts of Voldermort's soul. Until all of these are destroyed Voldermort can not be killed just in case you didn't know. Harry still has to destroy four more this will be hard as xxxxx is now dead. But Harry did destroy one of the horcruxes in the second book the Chamber Of Secrets. I don't think the title of the 6th book should of been the Half Blood Prince. That part of the story was relevant, but not as relevant as pehaps horcruxes would be but then again the title might be key for later books.
86 - bob
Just a thought, but what if Dumbledore took Harry to get the Horcrux only to show him what he'd be up against in finding them, what if Dumbledore knew already that this one was no longer there, but was preparing Harry, while also completing Snape and his plan to further gain Voldemorts trust?
87 - Kat
I very much doubt there will be more than seven books, I've read somewhere that though JKR will miss writing after the 7th book, it will in a way be a releif for her. Because think how popular they are now and how much pressure is on her to write them. Anyway, person who said my idea was "stupid" it is just a thought, and possible.. all ideas at the moment are possible because we don't know what will happen. And also, Voldemort CAN see into what harry is thinking, that is the reason he was taking oclumency lessons wasn't it? So that Harry can learn to block out voldemort. I still think Harry will be a Horcrux.
Interesting point ajem. Yeah, Voldemort did actually try to kill harry selecting him as the chosen one, but maybe by Accident it backfired and he accidently trasferred a piece of himself, his soul, into harry.. I don't know. But then, if that is true, how the hell will the next book end? Harry will have to die, no way can she leave the world of Harry potter like that...

I am convinced that R.A.B. is Sirus' brother. Remember that as is clear from the note the writer was a Death Eater - that's evident by it being directed to the Dark Lord. Sirus's brother's initials are R.B, and while I can't find the evidence I think the midddle initial is A. Harry in the book seven I think Harry's inherited house will be important. And if you ask who or what may have gone with R.A.B. to get the locket - consider that the house elf would have gone on commad and like Harry would not have been detected very much if at all.
89 - Girl
but Kat, when Voldemort tried to enter Harry's mind in the end of the 5th book, Order of the Phoenix, to tell Dumbledore to kill him, Voldemort was forced out. Because of the magic that lives in Harry, love. I hope that Harry stays with Ginny, they seem like a very good couple, both always thirsty for adventure and besides, Ginny is popular and really outgoing and she always sticks up for Harry. She even told Hermione that she shouldn't act as if she understands Quidditch when Hermione was attacking Harry about the Half-Blood Prince. Ron and Hermione are a bit obvious too, even in the 3rd book Prisoner of Azkaban.

I personally didn't like much the 6th book, because it was too short considering the amount of new information given. JK should have made it longer somehow. The part that i liked best was the one where Harry realised his feelings towards Ginny. Dunno why i liked it :)
In what respects to Dumbledore's death, i thought that it is bad sign, cause we know that Dumbledore was the only one voldemort feared. So, now that he's gone, i think it will be easier for Voldemort to get Harry. Or, perhaps, the time turner will reappear?

didn't sirius say that his brother was a coward and was killed by deatheaters. he doesnt seenm the kind to figure out how to get into the cave, drink the potion, and take the horcrux, while still surviving. plus, dont u need 2 people to drink the potion: one to drink it and the other to tip the potion into the other person's mouth? even dumbledore couldnt do it by himself- it caused too much pain
93 - dumblyluver
what do u think?
94 - dumblyluver
check out JKR's interview at the Leacky Caulron website- its 3 pages long!!
95 - A.Wilson
Sirus thought his brother was a coward but I thought that was because he joined the Death Eaters - you know he was a coward for joining instead of resisting. The second person could be an elf or a youth (like Harry) - doesn't have to be another adult.
I agree with the interpretation that Dumbledore was not begging for his life, he was asking Snape to kill him. I think there clues to believing, as have been mentioned that Snape was following Dumbledore's orders. Remember Dumbledore's conversation with Malfoy he says Snape would kill him to prevent Malfoy from doing it. Also, the reason Snape screams at Harry "DON'T CALL ME A COWARD" is because he is a working for Dumbledore and doing so means he is clearly not a coward - something to which he is sensitive about.
As to "can Voldemort read Harry's mind" - no, I don't thing so - it was Harry seeing images of Voldemort's thoughts, not the other way around. Go back and reread 5 and you will see that Voldemort could put images in Harry's mind but could not necessarily read Harry's thoughts. The lesson's were to teach him to close his mind so others couldn't read it or use it.

****SPOILER******
I didn't really like the 6th book the first time i read it, but the second time around i decided it deserved better than i had rated it at first, but i have to say, it wasn't as good as the 5th. First, what is all this about Harry splitting up with ginny? i kno that he is doing it to protect her but seriously!!!! And what is all this nonsense about not going back to Hogwarts? Okay, before you classify me as a Harry Potter hater lat me say that i am a huge fan and i really loved the book. And the part that i have really been wanting to discuss........ WHY DID DUMBLEDORE HAVE TO DIE? aargh! I was really mad at Snape! However, i am hoping that he is not really dead. I agree with the people who said that if there is powerful dark magic to keep urself alive, then y not powerful good magic? (I am thinking about... a. ghost b. new HP character who is really dumbledore c. most likely, pheoniex thing d. some spell (potion, locket?) that resembles a horcrux but is not nearly as wicked. I was really sad at the end of this book and hope that we have not seen the end of this great character.

Harry is going to destroy six of the seven horcruxes, including Voldermort, then he will realize that he himself is the final horcrux and then he will have to kill himself ending the Harry Potter saga.
It makes a lot of sense that he is a living horcrux: he became a horcrux when his parents were murdered, he can speak parseltongue, he can see what Voldermort is doing, his scar hurts when Voldermort is happy, and the reason why he has the scar is because Voldermorts soul entered his brain right there. It all fits together. I can't believe no one else thought of it before, not even Dumbledore.
99 - bill
Dumbledore had said that the one thing Harry has that saved him, that Voldemort lacks, is love. Therefore, although he broke up with Ginny there must be a way that they get back together b/c of the fact that the one thing that protects harry is love (His Mom's, Dad's, Sirius' and Dumbledore's love have kept him alive so far, so it seems likely that Ginny is the next one in line)
100 - sabrielle
i totally agree with riptide on the R.A.B thing! i was wondering if anyone would have enough brains to work it out!!! it is SO regulus black! come on, he IS dead, and his parents were as close to deatheaters as you can be without actually becoming one... i betcha anything that it is regulus!
also, once again, someone has died to protect harry. dumbledore sacrificed his only hope of protecting himself to immobilise harry, and let him watch yet another one of his friends die.
i think snape really is on the order's side, coz he really seemed reluctant to kill dumbledore, and he hesitated before taking the unbreakable vow. it DID seem like dumbledore wanted to be killed by snape, but i really think that he only took the vow to prove that he wasnt a coward.
101 - sabrielle
Here's a thought...
*~*~*~*DUMBLEDORE WAS A HORCRUX*~*~*~*
i think that's why he wanted Snape to kill him, but only after he had told Harry about the horcruxes.
1)locket (black house)
2)cup
3)ring
4)diary
5)ravenclaw's thing / sorting hat
6)*~*~*~*DUMBLEDORE*~*~*~*
ok, so maybe this is insane, but maybe that's why V went 2 dumby's office in the first place ... to make dumby a horcrux...
also... if you can make an evil horcrux by killing someone... maybe, just maybe you can make a good one by sparing someone's life ... like harry's?!?! maybe fawkes is a horcrux of dumbys???
yeah, maybe i'm just insane, but think about it...
102 - sabrielle
when people are hit by the AK, dont they just fall over backwards? note that dumby and sirius both fly thru tha air in an arc, then disappear out of sight, for the time being? does that mysterious veil in the ministry of magic's department of mysteries in book #5 have any connection???
103 - Quyen
I loved the 6th book, I think it was the best so far! I totally believe that Snape is good, and he only killed Dumbledore to save Malfoy. Here's something else, I don't know what it has to do with the plot, but i think Snape was in love with Narcissa, Malfoy's mother.
What do you think?

Mediocre is the word I would use to describe book 6. This is for a number of reasons:
1st. Isn't a bit illogical that Harry should still be angry and grieving over his parents (who he never actually knew) 16 years after their death, and that he seems to 'get over' sirius' death within a matter of weeks? For god's sake, I was in mourning longer than Harry! Alright, he is mentioned once or twice, but I would have expected from Harry's frame of mind at the end of the 5th book to be somewhat continued far into the 6th... Rowling rarely mentions Sirius, or Harry's feelings regarding his death--- she refers to the events of the last book as 'what happened at the ministry' far less often than I would have hoped. The 5th book (probably my favourite) might as well have never happened.
2. What has happened to the teens at Hogwarts? It seems that in an attempt to make the characters 'act their age', she has turned the school into some messy, half-censored (for younger readers) orgy. Thank god she got rid of Cho Chang, but really, I found the romance plot line of book 6 a bit confusing and as I said before, messy. It's bad enough that Harry and co. can't just give us the satisfaction of FINALLY 'having it off with eachother' for obvious reasons (but remember, they are 16-17), but she has to throw in all this weird 'who's making out with who' stuff.
3. Not a lot really happened in this book. Ok, so Dumbledore died, we found out about the horcruxes... the whole half-blood prince thing... Not a lot else of significance, really. Rowling had said something about this book being more background and less action, but blimey, book 6, one more to go, surely the story should be climaxing, not flaffing around the way it does? Some parts of this book reminded me of special features on a dvd- interesting, but a bit pointless and potentially damaging to the effect of the film, or in this case, the other books.
Thank you JK rowling for not setting out on yet another of Hagrid's tragically tedious plotlines beside buckbeak (anyone remember Grawp, aragog, the giants, blast-ended skrewts, Norbert the dragon--I had to skim all those sections to avoid boring myself to death). So I was actually quite relieved to find that we weren't subjected to another one. Dont get me wrong, Hagrid, as a character, is great, but his little ordeals are not.
Upon hearing the prophecy, I thought that Harry would be, in effect, invincible to anything as long as it didn't involve Voldemort. The reason that Dumbledore never fought Voldemort, I believed, was because he would definitely die, for he couldn't defeat voldemort if it would affect the prophecy. Now I'm not sure.
Some people have said that Dumbledore isn't really dead, he's going to come back, etc, but didn't we all think that about Sirius? and look what happened there. I think the author may be trying to make a point that once people are dead, they are dead.
I found the horcruxes and the entire half blood prince plotlines immensely interesting, although now that Harry knows exactly how to defeat Voldemort, it takes away a bit of the mystique of it all (which is inevitable, though). It reminds me in a way of the lord of the rings, as you now know what has to happen, but it won't have to be dragged out over three painful books, thank god.
So while this book was good to a degree, it lacked a lot and I was expecting a lot more. I do give JK Rowling credit though, as everyone has been so addicted to Harry Potter that they all expect so much from these final books. I'll be a bit sad when the final book comes out, as it means that all the wondering and mystery will be done, once and for all.

READ THIS
so i finally finished the 6th book and
it kept me reading day afterday for
mainly one reason to see the
adventures that harry would find in
the final chapters. Wheni got to
those chapters however thay were not
what i expected i felt like there
could of bin a larger battle.
people wanna see hero like qualities in harry him defeating someone proving what we as readers know that he is more powerful then eny other wizard ofhis time. The final chapters did not
show this all he did was run he did
not proove what i was waiting to see
in the whole book. I felt the ending
was rushed and a disapointment to the
other 5 bookes in which we are all
reashured that harry is the hero we
want to read about
AGREE ??????

Hello everyone i just found site so im new just wasted to add some comments
First i want to say that i thoough book six was good but...Whats up with snape killing d. That has bugged me no end because it just would not make sense snape being evil. He tryed to save harry in 1st book. And he saved harry and co in order of the pheonix cos he was the one who told the order where harry went if he has been on voldermorts side all along then why...no one whould have known harry said anything to him so he still could have been a spy for voldermort it dose not make sense.. also
Why would a death eater make an unbrakeable vow even to another death eater...there all surposed to be evil why the hell should they care bout them or there children..less competion for voldermorts approval...maybe to keep cover...
also argument in woods with d..somethings up there plus the way d pleads for his life im sorry but d would never plead for his life he was not scared of dieing like some have already said and where snape doesnt kill harry is a big thing plus he doesnt let anothing death eater kill him eaith he shouts "no, our orders are to leave potter hes the dark lords" its very funny he sez that when he wasnt even part of the plan he was in bed!!!
Then the last point which some others have said bout him going crazy when harry says "kill me, like you killed him you coward"
the exact paragraph is
"dont screamed snape, and his face was suddenly demented, inhuman, as though he was in as much pain as the yelping, howling dog stuck in the buring house behind them "call me a coward"
I think something is up there....
what do you think?

Um, i LOVED the sixth book. it was SOO good. I dont know what all u ppl are talking abotu it was GREAT. Cho Chang was a brat, and i am SO happy that him and Ginny fell in love.. it was SO cute. I didnt like the fact that harry broke up with her though. It reminded me so much of Spider man. I hope all they did was take some time off and will Get back together in the seventh book. Keep up the good work JK! and think about what i said about harry and ginny...shes only had a crush on him for forever. i think she should have her way...and for all u ppl out there who think cho and harry should be together...first of all, cho is OLDER, second of all she is a HUGE brat. Did, u not read the fifth book? she was TOTALLY jealous of hermoine its not even funny. HARRY AND GINNY FOR LIFE!!!!
108 - and_swirls
the best part of book 6 was that potter did not face off with voldemort. i was getting sick and tired of this potter vs lord v spat since potter won every single one of their encounters. made each face off more and more boring and less and less of a mystery. now that jk rowling has given us a break from this ridiculous match up, we can enjoy book 7 all the more.
109 - foosbaby
here are my two cents...
why in hell's name would voldemort make harry potter his horcrux!??
i like the RAB = sirius's brother idea.
thoughts on book 7:
1. harry potter is not going to kill anyone (including himself). rowling would not make her 17 year old protagonist of a children's series become a murderer. there will be another way. dumbledore's momentary triumphant look when potter tells him how voldemort was resurrected leads me to think that lord v once again did something stupid (as he seems so prone to do. the git makes an inexcusable number of miscalculations). i am NOT suggesting that peter pettigrew will take down voldemort, but there must be something significant in the fact that voldemort's "new body" is comprised of his muggle father, peter pettigrew and harry potter.
2. there is no way that severus snape is a bad guy. it makes his existance in book 7 pointless if this is so. there are 2 ultimate things a bad guy can do: kill harry potter and kill albus dumbledore. snape is not destined to kill potter so after so-called killing dumbledore, his story is finished. there is nothing he can do for voldemort that can top taking out dumbledore. but he lived and escaped and so his story goes on. i believe this without a shred of doubt proves he is on the order's side. there are other reasons but they have been covered quite well by previous comments and i won't waste your time by repeating them.
3. of course hogwarts will figure in book 7. every main character both good and bad has some connection to this school.
4. we did not see the end of albus dumbledore when book 6 concluded. he may or may not really be "dead" but he is not gone. there is certainly some significance in that fawkes has made a rebirth at regular intervals since his debut in book 2 as if to remind us of what a phoenix can do and that during dumbledore's funeral, the tomb is engulfed in white fire.
those are just a few thoughts i was mulling over.
110 - Alex
I agree with all the comments about the Snape-Dumbledore relationship. THis has been one on the best books so far.
Guys, a few of my friends and I believe that HARRY is the final horcrux. Think about it. Scar on his head, when Vold tried to kill him, he transfered his final part of his soul over to Harry. Dumbledore even tells harry in Book 6 that Horcruxes can be stored, though it is rare, in humans. what do you think?
111 - ssj4_naruto
i agree with post 109
WHY WOULD VOLDEMORT MAKE HARRY POTTER HIS HORCRUX (presumably at the time of killing his parents) AND THEN TRY TO KILL HIM!?!
even without the whole trying to kill him bit, it STILL begs the question WHY WOULD VOLDEMORT MAKE HARRY POTTER HIS HORCRUX? it doesn't make any sense.
112 - david
i agree dumbledoor could of been a horcrux and that is why he made snape kill him and he just put on a show tomake snape look like he was a baddy so he could be on the inside. any way does anybody have any sugestions on what the next book title will be i think that it will be harry potter and godrics hollow there has to be some sort of relvence or why would he be going there
113 - david
comment 60 by tina if she gave you an explination then peopl would not look forward to the next book which makes it more tense oh and here are just a few points i would like answerd.
1)if dumbledor is surposedly still alive why did his portrait go up on the wall
2)do you not think emma watson looks good. In real life.
3) why did voldermort want malfoy to kill dumbledor.
4)why has this greyback werewolf only just come into the story
5)could the sorting hat be a horcrux.
6)do you think dumbledoor knew he would die and that is why he started talking to harry.
7) what were snape and dumbledoor arguing about in the school grounds.
114 - Dan
you guys are a bunch of kooks!! I'm sorry but Snape is quite simply a BAD GUY!! Doubledore made a mistake!!! In case you have forgotten the name of the series is Harry Potter and... not "Doubledore and..." hence Harry Potter is the true hero and it is on he who the wizarding world depends!!! Yes Doubledore was wise and good... BUT... like Shakespearean tragedies the good guy often has a fault... mmm... let me see what Doubledore's was... trust.. hello!? Taking in the evil young Voldermort... trusting Snape for so long... hellowwah!! Snape is evil, Doubledore was flawed and made a simple mistake because he was so convinced of the goodness of humanity, and Harry Potter is the only true hero of this little story...
115 - david
to dan some inteligent people are looking at all the possiblites yes there is a chance that snape is realy bad but if you are going to moan about what people say then first of all spell dumbledore corectly not doubledore idot and you didnt answere my questions
116 - dan
hey brilliant Davey you spelt "Dumbledore" wrong too twice you stupid idiot!
117 - david
I believe that Dumbledore killed the large spider (Aragog?) in the Forbidden forest in order to split his own soul for his horcrux. so that then he could perhaps come back it is another tought.
118 - dan
sorry davey actually 4 times!! Smart guy you fing dumbass!!!! :):)
119 - dan
ok here's a thought for all you crazy peoples.....
1) "DUMBLEDORE" is going to be the one who kills V in the end with some kind of from-the-dead magic..
2) Harry will die in #7... this much I'm sure of.
3) Hermione will be the one who the book ends with... looking on and remembering the adventure!!
120 - david
dan how do you spell "DUMBLEDORE" then
121 - Quyen
I don't think Dumbledore will come back to life. Because J.K would not want to teach kids that people die and come back to life. She's made it clear in her other books, that people die and stay dead. Otherwise Harry's parents would have come back somehow.
I do think that Snape is a good guy... it doesn't make sense for him to become evil in book 6.
122 - dan
dan you have spelt dumbeldore wrong more times than me now please can any one anwser my questions. oh and dan its david not davey pehaps you can not read
1)if dumbledor is surposedly still alive why did his portrait go up on the wall
2)do you not think emma watson looks good. In real life.
3) why did voldermort want malfoy to kill dumbledor.
4)why has this greyback werewolf only just come into the story

6)do you think dumbledoor knew he would die and that is why he started talking to harry.
7) what were snape and dumbledoor arguing about in the school grounds.questions
123 - Nazmus Saqib
This book is boring in general apart from the shocking end.
Dumbledor's death may have created an opportunity to make the last book very intersting. But you know what came out of my mouth after finishing the book - "I'm not going to read any fucking book without Dumbledore in it."
124 - Nazmus Saqib
Guys! Do you reckon Voldy's a gay n Snape's his mate?
125 - Sammi Jo
i think that R. A. B. is Regulas Black(dont know his middle name) Sirius Blacks brother. He mentions him in the 5th book while Harry and him were looking at the Black family tree. I think Regulas might of known of You know whos plan to kill him and decided to get his revenge. I think he was a lot cleverer than Sirius had thought.
