Book Review: God? by Chris DeSalvo

Who is God? Or better yet, maybe the question should simply be, IS God? Does He exist? Can it be proved on way or the other? If all of the evidence for and against the existence of God was all in one place, could we then determine the answer to the age old question?

God?, by Chris DeSalvo sets out to just that. DeSalvo attempts to compile every argument for – and against – God. The author make an effort to make each argument objectively, to keep human opinion out of the matter and allow the reader to simply look at the facts. I’m not quite satisfied that this is accomplished without the author’s subjective opinion showing through, but it’s one of the best efforts at this that I’ve seen.

DeSalvo begins by cautioning all readers, whether believers or non-believers in God, that both side of the story will be presented for every subject. This, obviously, raises the probability of every reader being offended by the information presented at one point or another in the book.

The author then begins the book by summarizing the cases for and against the existence of God. He then continues on to examine the purpose of life, why the world exists, and the purpose and characteristics of God – whether He is or isn’t omnipotent, omni benevolent, and so forth.

DeSalvo then moves into science and examines cells, life forms and how life on earth may have come about. He discusses the big bang theory as well as arguments about whether there could have been a God who caused the big bang – or if that theory even makes sense when presented with the specifics of how that would have to work.

Next, the book discusses everything from genetic biology to evolution, quantum mechanics to the history of Jesus. The book is so in depth, it took a while to digest and would take even longer to attempt to explain. What I will say is that, as a believer in Jesus, in one absolute God, I think everyone should examine the evidence on both sides of the “God vs. science” issue.

The cover image and Amazon link are for the wrong book (with the same title). Chris DeSalvo's (who is a man, btw) can be found at amazon.

Thanks for the review. It's one of only two I've been able to find for this book.
