Book Review: Glam Knits - 25+ Designs for Luxe Yarns by Stefanie Japel

Part of: Knit Picks

Glam Knits by Stefanie Japel is a collection of over 25 knitting patterns made for glamour girls with luxe yarns. Japel previously wrote the wildly popular Fitted Knits so you know this one will be good. The knits within are unique, glamorous, flattering, and just all-around flattering. The stunning models -- made up like pin-up girls with finger waves, thick lashes, and ruby lips -- almost distract from the wonderful knits.

“Silk Cami” is a racerback top with lacy hem and topped off with a huge silk bow. A matching skirt pattern can be found further on in the book, but the two pieces together are way too “matchy.” “Bamboo Tunic” is a simple halter with keyhole neck. The drawstring that sits low at the hip can be worn high to create a banded shape, or pulled straight to become a shift. “Bell-Sleeved Scoop-Neck Top” is a vintage dream: deep neckline, fitted shape, ¾ bell sleeves, and a wide band of eyelet lace at the hem and cuffs gets tantalizingly close to being inappropriate. “Lace Panel Tunic” is cozily oversized with banded wrists and hem. The leafy lace pattern keeps it sexy and airy.

“Romantic Bell-Sleeved Cardi” is a very simple fitted cardigan with picot trimming and elbow-length belled sleeves. “Lace Mini-Dress” is actually far too short to be a dress – it can barely be considered a tunic. Still, it is an adorable piece – a wide lace mesh topped with a playful Peter Pan collar and gently puffed shoulders. “Lacy Dolman” is a perfect evening cover-up: cropped shape, buttons only at the waist, and a wide, fuzzy lace pattern with long belled sleeves. “Textured Circle Shrug” is longer than your typical shrug – waist length in the back, with a shawl collar and textured horizontal “ribs” that circle the arms like toned-down Jetsons costume. “Puff-Sleeved Hoodie” will turn you into a kittenish Little Red Riding Hood – oversized hood, fitted waist, frog closures, and belled sleeves. The selection of simple accessories are surprisingly uninteresting: a lacy shawl, scarf, handbag, and clutch round out the patterns.

This is one knitting book that does not disappoint.
