Book Review: From Hospital to Home Care: A Step by Step Guide to Providing Care to Patients Post Hospitalization by Kathy N. Johnson, James H. Johnson, and Lily Sarafan

Are you caring for an elderly parent or relative, but finding that you’re burned out and sometimes hardly able to keep going? Do you feel exhausted and worry that you may be the next one getting ill? If you answered either of the previous questions in the affirmative, From Hospital to Home Care was written for you.

Given our current times with more individuals living past the age of 80, caring for the elderly will fall on the kids and relatives at some point. This can be very difficult to cope with because many people around their middle years have their own health issues. From Hospital to Home Care shows the reader how to help his/her parents and grandparents when they get out of hospital and come back home.

There are many things that can be done to help our parents and relatives. One of the things that caregivers can do is to seek home care after the hospitalization of a loved one.

This book will show the reader what to do step-by-step from taking your loved one out of the hospital to providing home care for him/her so that you could have some much-needed rest. This book is a must-read for all individuals who are caring, or will be caring, for aged parents or relatives.

I loved the book from beginning to end. I am taking care of an aged parent right now myself.

I especially loved the last chapter which includes a summary of the main points covered in the book and an urgent reminder for caregivers to take care of themselves as well in order to be there for their loved ones as time goes on.

Having a few chronic conditions myself, I feel run down and burned out a lot of the time. So, this book has really helped me to know what I can do to take care of myself AND my mother-in-law. And this is so important because if I get sick, what good will I be to my mother-in-law?
