Book Review: Eye of the Iditarod: Aisling’s Quest by Hope Irvin Marston

Part of: Reviews in Brief

This is a true and inspirational story about a girl who had a big dream and was determined to pursue it, regardless of what happened and which obstacles she faced as a person. Hope Irvin Marston wrote the 11 year old Aisling’s story down because she was so drawn to her and knew that it would inspire many young girls to be their best and dare to dream big.

Aisling was born legally blind. But ever since she was watching sled racing on television, she always dreamed of running her very own dog race one day. So, when she got a chance at a rare opportunity to run her own dogs in the Iditarod race in Alaska, she was determined to get herself and her dogs ready.

The reader will be taken on a real journey as Aisling prepares for the race of her life. And the reader will learn that determination and hard work do pay off. All you have to do is to believe in your dreams and set your sights high, and you can do anything you set your mind to.

This book also has great educational value. The reader will learn a lot about the world of sled racing and the challenges and heartbreaks of caring for and training sled dogs. But most of all, the reader will learn how to be a shepherd by facing whatever challenges come their way head on. Aisling’s message is you don’t have to follow the crowd. Follow your dreams instead. What a great message for kids!
