I have discovered the new Twilight series, and I’m sure a lot more people are going to be jumping on the bandwagon as these books become known. Stephanie Meyer faces some stiff competition from Alyson Noel’s new series, The Immortals. The series has already been optioned for the movies.
The cover, those two stark red tulips against that field of purple, claimed my attention the first time I laid eyes on it. I tried to ignore it, but it was just one of those covers that wouldn’t go away. It haunted me, especially when I couldn’t remember the name.
When I got a copy, I sat down to read it, intending to only read a chapter or two. Instead, I blazed through the first hundred pages before I knew it. I got introduced to Ever (and isn’t that just the coolest name… well, ever?) and Damen, and then I didn’t want to put the book down. Except I couldn’t keep my eyes open any longer. So I picked it up the next morning and finished it. Now I can’t wait till July for the second book to see what happens next.
I really enjoyed the story. The characters are fun and feel real. Teen angst drips on every page without becoming offensive even to a grownup like me. Especially since I’m male and teen angst isn’t an everyday language for me.
It won’t be a spoiler to mention that Damen’s nature isn’t exactly revealed in this book, but it promises to be a doozy. He’s not a vampire. He’s something different, which earned the novel a gold star my book. And also caused me to invest much curiosity. But I think I’m going to get a good return on that investment, and how often have you been able to say that these days?
I enjoy Ever’s psychic powers and the way that Alyson Noel has built them up. They make sense and adhere to their own logic. They make Ever strong and vulnerable at the same time, which is interesting as well. The romance between the two is a gimme. There’s no way two people like this wouldn’t be interested in each other.

Yea, I'm kinda surprised that I haven't seen this book ANYwhere except for the one copy I bought out of impulse (and what a great impulse it was) at walmart. I didn't know there would possibly be a movie either! I hope they get a girl that looks like the one on the cover.

If this book will be a movie, I recommend Steven Strait to play Damen.

I love this book.. I just got to the part were he left. I don't think I would yell at someone like that. Maybe she could have listened to him a little bit. I could not stop reading the book. I need a couple of chapters left. 2 more to read..:]:]

I fail to understand why you are raving about this.
Perhaps it is because you have extremely low standards, or maybe this site is lacking in good reviewers. Either way, it's clear that you lack good taste because this book was neither original, nor good. It was a carbon copy of twilight, mixed with every other teen cliche and angst story you could ever find.
I actually had to return the book to the bookstore it was so bad, and I've never done that before.
The mere fact that the book has been optioned for a movie tells me just how pathetic and money hungry the entertainment industry is, because there is no way anyone should pay to see this pathetic excuse for a book in movie form.

Although I think the series is great, I noticed a huge gaping hole in the story. I've always wondered that if Ever reincarnates, then how come her parents, Riley and even their dog ends up in an afterlife? I mean, before Ever becomes an immortal, she is still living diffrerent lives through reincarnation (i.e. the one with the strict Puritan father, or the spoiled London girl one). But, after the car crash that killed her family, then end up crossing the bridge forever. I also read the book about Riley's adventures in the afterlife, which proves that the rest of the family was definitely NOT reincarnated. Jude was also said to be reincarnated with Ever through all of her lives as her other lover. Am I the only one that realized this?

The way I see it, people are reincarnated only to fulfill what their soul is longing to do. Ever's soul wanted to be with Damen. That doesn't mean her parents or her sister or her dog will be reincarnated with her. The same for Jude; His soul wanted to know if Ever would choose him or Damen. He had to stick around her to wait and see.
